May 2014 Newsletter

It's Back!

The ECN leadership team strives to provide the resources, tools, and training necessary for you to create excellent events at Georgia Tech. As a way of keeping you well informed and as a means of developing a community of planners within the Institute, we are pleased to re-launch this monthly newsletter.

Following this issue, you will receive your ECN newsletter on the first Tuesday of each month with the following regular content:
  • A feature article, highlighting an exceptional event or event planner on campus.
  • At least two supplemental articles, targeting specific event- or professional development-related topics and issues.
  • A segment entitled ECN Answers, designed to address your most challenging event and campus-related questions.
  • A listing of upcoming ECN events.

We hope you find the new format and content refreshing, exciting, and informative. We look forward to assisting you with your event planning needs and invite you to submit comments and suggestions to events@comm.gatech.edu.

Thank you for your participation in the Event Coordinators’ Network!

ECN Highlights and News

Commencement Demystified

Planning for Commencement is not a simple task, but it is certainly one of the most rewarding. Institute Communications recently sat down with some event planners to share some behind-the-scenes details about the Institute’s key event. Read more here.

Protocol Pointers

In February, we hosted Georgia’s Chief Protocol Officer Abby Turano. For those who weren’t able to attend (or need a refresher), we are happy to share the first segment of a two-part series highlighting her suggestions, resources, and ideas. Read more here.

Featured Event Planner

The ECN would like to congratulate Anne Minty for being named the Campus Services Employee of the Month in May. Read more here.

ECN Answers

Q: I want to host an outdoor event. How can this be done?
A: To begin, you must reserve the space on GTEvents:  http://emsscheduling.gatech.edu/.Once approved, review Capital Planning and Space Management’s Guidelines for Use of Outdoor Space, which provides answers to questions about grilling, tents, amplified sound, and facilities:  http://www.space.gatech.edu/eventscheduling/.

You will also want to email Campus Space Manager Beverly Peace about attending the Event Logistics Committee Meeting, where you can meet with Tech’s prominent event operations contacts and discuss your event.

We Want You!

Want to get more involved with ECN? Have you wanted to participate in events outside your office? ECN is looking for volunteers to serve on our workshop committee. Interested members can email us at events@comm.gatech.edu. Our first meeting will be scheduled in the next few weeks.
