Move-Out Donation Drive coming soon

Last week we gave you tips for lightening your load now. If you are visiting home for the long weekend this week, now’s a great time to start bringing belongings home with you  - you’ll have less to deal with while moving out in a few weeks!

Speaking of move-out, next week you will notice donation bins show-up on your hall’s main floor. You can use these to donate the items you don’t need to take home with you (clothing, bedding, food, dishes, etc.) and they will be given to local charities.

On Memorial Day you will receive a door hanger that includes what and how you can donate, along with bags you can use to sort donations in your room. But there’s no need to wait – check-out the details now. It’s never too early to get ready for move-out!

Reminder: UHDS dining plans end this term

Remember that residence hall UHDS dining plan balances are removed at the end of Spring Term – they do not carry over to the next term.  Whatever is left on the plan will be removed on June 16.

Now is the time to be aware of your remaining dining plan balances. If your current balance is more than you can use by the end of the term, please consider changing to a lower dining plan now before your balance is too low to allow the change.  Dining plan changes cannot be requested after June 6.

Minimum balances required to lower your dining plan:
  • From Ultimate to Premium: $218
  • From Ultimate to Preferred: $457
  • From Ultimate to Basic: $696
  • From Premium to Preferred: $239
  • From Premium to Basic: $478
  • From Preferred to Basic: $239
If you are running low on UHDS dining dollars, you can choose to add money to your Orange Rewards plan; Orange Rewards balances DO carry over as long as you are an OSU student.  Orange Rewards dollars are accepted in all campus dining locations.  Simply log in to MyCard site and add whatever amount you need to get you through the rest of the term. Good luck with the rest of the term!

Orange Rewards don’t disappear!

Are you returning to OSU next year?  If you will continue to be an OSU student next year, even if you are living off-campus, your Orange Rewards dining plan will still be active.  So don’t worry about trying to use up your Orange Rewards balance before the end of Spring Term.  Save it to use during Summer Session or next Fall Term when you return to campus!

New: Slack line area added to south side

Attention Slackers,

Out of respect to your amazing balance, as well as a desire to take the tension of trees on campus, University Housing & Dining Services and the Department of Recreational Sports has teamed up to install a series of poles that can be used to stretch webbing between. The new slack line area is the on the south side of campus between Halsell Hall and Southside Station @ Arnold.

Please come enjoy the area as a place to practice your tricks and stunts, or simply to hang out and watch others engage in the sport of trying.

Slackers need to provide their own gear, or check out gear from Rec Sports. All slacklining in this area is performed at your own risk, so please exercise caution and spot new slackers. The area will be open as soon as the construction fencing is removed next week.

Input needed: Lounges, common areas and kitchens

UHDS Facilities Maintenance and Construction would like to know what you, the students, think about some of the lounges, common areas and kitchens in the UHDS buildings that you live and dine in.

The facilities team realizes that some spaces need a little extra care and renovation this summer and want to know things that you think should be repaired or remodeled in the near future.

Email us your ideas!! Please remember that we only have the ability to work on the UHDS buildings (the residence and dining halls). If you send us an email be sure to include as much information on the issue as possible, including the building and room number if possible. If you would like to submit a picture to us please do so by attaching it to an email addressed to UHDS Work Coordination or call in a suggestion to 541-737-2032.

Thank you! Go Beavs!

When completed, the International Resource Center will be open! But what would the center be without any representations of the rich cultures of Oregon State's international students?

The center needs your help! If you have any cultural items (clothes, trinkets, toys, decorations, etc.) that you don’t need or want to haul around when you move in the summer, please donate them to the center! The staff will be sure to find them a good home for them in the International Resource Center. Your items will help enrich the experience of future students!

Linda Bacon to speak on obesity myths today

Linda Bacon, author of “Health at Every Size: The Surprising Truth About your Weight,” will speak about weight prejudice and body acceptance at Oregon State University in Corvallis on Thursday, May 22.

Bacon’s presentation, “The Next Public Health Challenge: Losing the Anti-Obesity Paradigm,” will examine myths about obesity and problems with a health agenda that is focused on the concept of thinness. She’ll also offer an alternative that does not use weight as a barometer for health or promote weight loss as a means to achieving better health.

Bacon will speak from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Withycombe Theatre, 2901 S.W. Campus Way. The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by Healthy Campus Initiatives and the School of Psychological Science in the College of Liberal Arts at OSU.

Bacon is a professor, researcher and author who combines academic expertise and clinical experience to bring together scientific research and practical application. She focuses on well-being rather than weight to help people of all sizes achieve fitness, health and happiness without dieting.

She is an assistant researcher in the nutrition department and teaches nutrition at City College of San Francisco. She holds a doctorate in physiology from the University of California, Davis.
