HEAL Zoo Walk Successful in Raising Funds for Autism

On Sunday April 27, over 1,400 participants came out to the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens in support of the HEAL Zoo Walk for Autism. The Zoo Walk raised nearly $60,000 for our Autism for the Northeast Florida Autism community. A special thanks to Nimnicht Family of Dealerships who sponsored the HEAL after party “Party with Patty” Hosted by Patty Crosby and Jim Meyer. Sponsor CSX made it possible for all participants to enjoy free train rides throughout the day.

The top three fundraising teams were able to designate a total of $1,000 to their favorite school or organization. The first place team, Primerica Meyer Maniacs, designated $500 for the Arrowsmith Program at Providence School; the second place team, Cameron’s Heroes for Autism, designated $350 for Westview Elementary School; and the third place team, Autisticly Awesome, designated $150 for Loretto Elementary School. Great Strides Rehab was the top school and won an iPad to use in their classrooms. Thanks to Jim Meyer for this donation!

Proceeds from the HEAL Zoo Walk will directly benefit local children, teens and adults with Autism. Because of the efforts of so many, 20 summer camps and programs have received grants that will serve over 300 individuals with Autism in our community:
  • Peer to Pier Club - Fishing Club at the Jacksonville Beach Pier
  • Bowling Buddies - HEAL Bowling League
  • HEAL/City of Jacksonville Beach Surf Camp
  • Camp Cummer - Cummer Museum Inclusive Art Camp
  • Haven Horse Ranch - Horse Camp
  • Girl Scouts-Smile Camp - Day Camp for girls with Autism
  • DOSA Summer Camps - Catholic Charities Autism overnight camps
  • Help Us Golf – HUG/HEAL/TPC golf camps
  • Great Strides - Music Therapy for Children with Autism

  • Jacksonville School for Autism - JSA Summer Camps
  • Henderson Haven – Camp Possible

  • Rising Stars – Baseball Camp
  • Webster School – Sensory Integration
  • World Art Film Festival – Teen Volunteer Program
  • Loretto Elementary School – Ms. Thomas’ Pre-K CSS Class
  • Westview Elementary School – Autism Wing
Again, a big thanks to everyone who participated, volunteered and donated to the HEAL Zoo Walk for Autism. As you can see, the money raised is already working to assist those with Autism in our community!
