Police Prostitution Liaison Officer, Leeds, West Yorkshire Police
West Yorkshire Police, as part of the Leeds Prostitution Strategy, have introduced the role of Police Prostitution Liaison Officer as part of efforts to increase the reporting of crimes committed against sex worker and improve the safety of sex workers. In other cities where this role has been in place it has played a vital role in improving communication between sex workers, sex work projects and the police and improving trust and confidence in the police amongst sex workers.
Detective Constable Joanne Kemp took on this role from the end of April and is now active in improving links between the police and projects such as Genesis who support sex workers Read More

Genesis climbs the Yorkshire 3 Peaks | 7th June 2014
With the 7th June fast approaching the Genesis team travelled to Ingleborough on Saturday 17th May for a practice walk. Whilst the sun was out we made the most of the nice weather and climbed two peaks in preparation, completing a 13 mile walk! This was a challenging day and reminded us of why the 7th June will be a big day for the team. If you'd like to learn more about our challenge and support us please view our Just Giving page here
The Chair of Genesis Dr Kate Brown is also taking on her own challenge by swimming 6 miles across Lake Windermere. To learn more and support please view Kates Just Giving Page here |

Murder of Woman in Derby
Genesis was saddened to learn about the murder of Yvette Hallsworth age 36 in early April in Derby. Our condolences go to her family, loved ones and friends. A young man aged 18 has been charged with her murder.
Her death is another tragic reminder of how we need to work hard with partners agencies especially the police, locally, regionally and nationally to prevent crimes against sex workers. It is important there is a clear message that crimes against sex workers will not be tolerated. Genesis is working hard to do this through it's frontline safety work such as promoting safety at work, coordinating the ugly mugs scheme in Leeds, linking in with the National Ugly Mugs scheme, working with Jo the police liaison officer. We also aims to do this through our participation in strategic work with partner agencies in Leeds to ensure the safety of sex workers is a priority. Read More about the story here
