Dear Friends of Passage

We’re now gearing up towards the end of the school Summer term and these remaining few months and weeks will no doubt fly by. In between all these sporadic bouts of sunshine, will be many dates to squeeze into your bludgeoning diaries. Passage will have a few more to add to those before the holidays are nigh, so please make a note to save the following dates shown on the right.

You can also keep regularly updated of all Passage news and have access to informed content by joining our Facebook group page. This is a 'secret group', which means that all the posted activity is not published on your personal Facebook timeline. To join our friendly online community, simply drop us an email to receive a personal invitation.

So without further ado, here's the latest news from Passage...

Upcoming ISL Parenting Seminars

Our regular newsletter readers will be familiar with these parenting seminars offered by the International School of Luxembourg (ISL). These are ISL non-exclusive events that Passage help to promote, but registration of your interest is recommended as these evenings are usually very popular.

The next one is scheduled for Tuesday 27th May at 6.45pm. It is entitled "World Internet Cafe – a dialogue on balancing technology in your family life" and it is run in conjunction with the BEE SECURE group; a Luxembourg initiative founded to promote the safer use of new information technologies and communication. Details of the seminar contents are outlined in the poster shown below (see loaded images). Please email LGervais@islux.lu or call Lou Gervais on 2604 4205 if you are interested in attended.

Remember to save the date also for the next parenting seminar on Tuesday 17th June entitled "Raising Resilient Children"!

Passage at the BCL CarBoot Sale

Lynn, my husband Neill and I had a hectic few days beforehand preparing for the sale. This culminated in a very early start on the morning erecting up the two gazebos and laying out all the wares ready for the crowds to venture to the stands. Weather was at least bright and dry… barring an unfortunate incident where we lost the tent to the sudden gusts!
Our presence at the sale was to raise awareness as well as extra funds to aid the running costs of Passage, so it was great to see so many of you on the day coming to support and chat to us. We met many new families and introduced new professionals and practitioners to Passage, which meant it was a fun and successful day all in all. Of course, as with every BLC CarBoot Sale we’ve participated in before, there were still plenty of leftover items; some of which we gifted to the charity Caritas Luxembourg and the rest to save for another year. Now we have 12 months to relax and to motivate us for the next one!

Passage Professionals Networking Evening

So far we’ve had two Passage Professionals Networking Evenings at Club 5 in Bonnevoie and they have been a great opportunity for us to meet and greet some of the Luxembourg-based practitioners and to help facilitate dialogue between them as well. Passage are still tinkering around with the event format, but hopefully we are steadily arriving at an agreeable solution that offers useful information sharing and interesting conversation to those that attend. Thank you again for the great response to our initiative and for sending in your valuable feedback following these evenings.

Please bear in mind that the the last Professionals Networking Evening of the season is scheduled for Thursday 26th June. If you are a professional working in the field of health, education and the social development of children and families in Luxembourg and would like to join us, then don’t hesitate to email us at passage.parents@gmail.com for an invitation to the event.

Summer Code Camp - learn, code, play...

Our good friend Madhumalti Sharma is going to have a busy Summer ahead, as she launches "Code-Camp Lux": two one-week long workshops of coding offered by her computer whizz-kid of a son, Atreyam. It will be a break from the usual format as there will be bouts of physical play outside to take advantage of the location and the hopefully favourable Summer weather! Places are limited so please book ahead on workshop4me@gmail.com. All other course details are available on the poster shown below.

Future Projects in the Autumn

Patricia Andersson was an inspirational speaker at our second Passage evening seminar. She gave us a 20 minute introduction into "Mindfulness" and that brief, yet incredibly rewarding experience was enough to whet many appetites to learn more. Hopefully we can collaborate with her to bring you a workshop sometime in the Autumn and we’ll let you know once we can determine dates and a venue. In the meantime, please refer to our Passage Facebook page for other articles regarding this topic or if you would like to participate in a course before then, we can put you in touch with another Luxembourg-based profession who is currently running workshops. Just contact us at passage.parents@gmail.com for further details.

Likewise, another topic currently gaining popularity from conversation and from your feedback is that of "Teenagers". I, myself have a son a couple of years short of that milestone and no doubt there will be many issues to encounter as we survive it as a family. With my own personal vested interest in mind, Passage will therefore be planning a third evening seminar with 'teenagers and adolescents' as our focus. There are a myriad of ways of addressing this complex subject and hopefully our gathered panel of speakers will do it justice. More information to follow nearer the seminar date.

Finally Passage would like to wish you all a wonderful Summer ahead and we look forward to meeting again in the Autumn...
The regular address for our fortnightly Passage meetings and occasional ‘themed discussions’ is:
239 Val des Bon Malades, L-2121 Kirchberg, Luxembourg.

Look out for the “Luxchiro” sign, then enter the building. The meetings are held in the private room downstairs.
