The Town & Gown Players present
Steel Magnolias
by Robert Harling

Directed by Cameron Logan

“Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion.”  - Truvy

The Town & Gown Players present a production of Steel Magnolias, the much-loved story about the friendships of six southern women who find humor and solace within the walls of Truvy’s Beauty Shop. The cast includes T&G regulars Bryn Adamson as M'Lynn, Gay Griggs McCommons as Clairee, Janet Robertson as Ouiser, Greer Caldwell as Shelby, and Gilliane Gentzel as Annelle, as well as newcomer Cher Schmidt as Truvy.

Steel Magnolias was written by Robert Harling as a tribute to his sister, who died from complications of type 1 diabetes after giving birth to her son.  It was originally written as a short story for Mr. Harling’s nephew, to explain how his mother died, and all characters in the show are based on actual people in the author’s family.  Although the show opened off-Broadway on March 28, 1987, it did not make it to Broadway until 2005.  Mr. Harling wrote the screenplay for the 1989 movie version as well.

Steel Magnolias runs June 6-8 and 12-15. Showtimes are 8:00pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday with a Sunday matinee at 2:00pm. Admission is $15 for Adults; $12 for Seniors, Students, and Members; and $8 for Students and Members on Thursday. For tickets, call 706-208-TOWN (706-208-8696) or visit showclix.com.
