The increase in health insurance costs over the decade accounted for 92 percent of the total change of all cost types, leaving 8 percent of the overall increase in costs split among other components of compensation such as wages, vacation pay, savings, or pension plans.

May year-over-year unemployment rates show Kentucky farther away from pre-recession levels than than the Cincinnati MSA, Ohio, or the U.S.

As of May 2014, the U.S. had an unemployment rate of 6.1 percent. Ohio and the Cincinnati MSA had unemployment rates lower than the nation, at 5.3 and 5.1 percent respectively. Kentucky’s unemployment rate exceeded the nation by 1.4 percent, with a rate of 7.5 percent.
