Dear <<First Name>>,

Welcome to the May edition of the Miscarriage Association Supporters e-Newsletter.

One of our key goals, here at the M.A., is to provide information and support to everyone affected by pregnancy loss. As such, we’re very pleased to be working on several new projects this summer that will increase our reach and allow us to better support partners and young people who have experienced a miscarriage, or an ectopic or molar pregnancy.

The input of our supporters is vital in developing these new resources, as it is in improving the care provided by healthcare professionals after a miscarriage. Sharing your feedback on sites like patientopinion.org.uk or talking to the practice manager at your GP surgery or the PALS unit at your local hospital about your experiences, can help highlight both good practice and areas which need improving.

If you’d like to provide feedback on any of our resources or services, or if you would like to organise a fundraising event or volunteer, please don’t hesitate to contact us on info@miscarriageassociation.org.uk.

'Partners Too' – coming soon

Next month sees the launch of our new campaign, called ‘Partners Too’.  It aims to raise awareness of the often unrecognised feelings and needs of the partners of women who go through pregnancy loss.  Many of the people we talked to describe feelings of helplessness, sadness and a tendency to downplay or suppress their own feelings in order to support their wife or girlfriend.

The campaign will feature a number of video clips and illustrated quotes, along with a new leaflet for partners and some suggestions as to what – and what not – to say. We’d love you to share these links and videos across social media to help us reach out to these partners and let them know that help is available.

Run the London Marathon
for us in 2015

We had an amazing day back in April, cheering on our 26 runners in the 2014 Virgin London Marathon. They all did a terrific job, and so far they have raised £50,000 between them, with more still to come!

We’re now accepting applications for the M.A.’s charity places for 2015. If you, or someone you know, would like to run for us, you can find out more information about the process on our website. We’d love to welcome our keen supporters onto our 2015 team.

New volunteering opportunity for young people

Are you aged between 16 and 20, or do you know someone who is? We’re looking for young people to help us develop resources for their peers who experience a miscarriage, or a molar or ectopic pregnancy. The first volunteering opportunity is a workshop in London on May 27, but we’re also would like to involve young people from across the UK in an online three-day workshop later in the year. See our website for more details.
Marjolaine Ryley, our Artist in Residence

A welcome to our new
Artist in Residence

We’re pleased to announce that one of our members, Marjolaine Ryley, will soon become the M.A.’s Artist in Residence. Marjolaine has been awarded funding through Arts Council England for a new project entitled The Thin Blue Line / The Deep Red Sea. This work will document her own journey to start a family, as well as explore and question wider social, political, scientific and medical issues around pregnancy loss. You can follow Marjolaine’s blog at
thethinbluelinethedeepredsea.wordpress.com.
If you know of anyone else who might like to receive this newsletter, do forward them this link and suggest they subscribe.

Meanwhile, we look forward to talking to you again in July.
