With Summer fast approaching you might be wondering the best way to get a flatter stomach...
To get a flatter stomach obviously takes a mixture of eating healthier and excercising correctly.
Below are some nutritional tips:
  • Drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated helps keep you fuller for longer and also helps you body perform better. This allows you metabolism to remain higher and burn more calories.
  • Make sure every time you eat you have a source of protein in your meal. This will help you stay fuller for longer but also the body finds it easier to burn off the calories consumed through protein than any other food source.
  • Keep away from processed foods and fizzy drinks. Your body won't recognise these therefor it is harder for it to burn them off.
  • Drink green tea instead of tea or coffee. Green tea slowly released caffeine to raise metabolism.
  • Eat little and often. Try eat every 2/3 hours as this will help keep hunger away and also helps your body to more efficient in burning calories.
  • You must eat breakfast. Eating breakfast will help kick start your metabolism and will help fuel your through you day.
On top of this doing the correct exercise is also very important:
  • Intense exercise is better than steady state, so for example 20 minutes of short sprints is much better than an hour of steady jogging. Another example is a fast power walk, trying to complete a circuit as quick as possible, is better than a slow steady walk.
  • Lifting weights is not just great for burning a high number or calories, but also it keeps metabolism high which is great for burning calories even when not exercising. Using compound movements such as a squat is better than a bicep curl for fat burning, this will lead to you getting a flatter stomach more quickly.
  • Stomach exercises are good but you should never perform stomach exercises such as sit ups with a weight - this will only make your abdominals bigger and if you can't see them it will just lead to a bigger stomach!
  • Exercises like the plank, medicine ball twists and bycycle crunches, are great for a flatter stomach because these exercise work abdominal muscles and deeper muscles found under your abs.
  • If you can't fit in exercise every day, then not to worry, just try and top up your activity by taking the stairs instead of the lift, parking further away from the shops or walking. It all adds up!
Getting into shape can be made very confusing by Newspaper articles, magazines and TV commercials, but the key is to eat as healthy as possible, exercise as much as possible and make it as intense as possible. If something sounds easy and needs no willpower, then it is almost 100% likely it will not work. Just 15 minutes of intense exercise every morning could be the difference between getting into better shape for summer or not. Set yourself daily goals and weekly goals and make sure you stick to them then you will see great results!
