Radix Endeavor, the online game for STEM learning
The Radix Endeavor: An online game for STEM learning

Radix Endeavor Pilot Extended Through December 2014!

We are in full swing with The Radix Endeavor with more than 5000 teacher and student accounts and would like to keep the momentum going. As the testing season winds down, many of you are just starting to use the game while others have already concluded game-play for this academic year.  Regardless of where you are in the process, we invite you to think about how you might use the game again with your new students in the fall.  Please note that there are several research options that are available to you both this spring and next fall.  If you are interested in any of the research options below, be sure to complete the Research Enrollment Form.
  • Option A: Your students will play the game as much or as little as you want - in school or at home.
  • Option B: Your students will play the game and take pre- and post-surveys related to the quest lines they complete.
  • Option C: Your students will play all of the quest lines in a specific content area (either math or biology) and take the external online assessments relevant to that content area.  In addition, MIT researchers will visit your classroom/computer lab to conduct observations while students play the game.
NEW! Radix Virtual Office Hours

Starting Wednesday, May 14, 2014, The Radix Team will now be available for virtual office hours every Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 PM EDT to provide updates about the game or simply answer your questions about Radix.    To participate in the virtual office hours simply meet us in our virtual meeting room.

Teacher Survey Now Available

If you are a teacher who is finished using Radix in your classroom for this semester, please take this survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/radix-teacher

Why are we asking you to take this survey? As part of our work at The Education Arcade, we not only design and develop learning games but also conduct research studies around them. One aspect of The Radix Endeavor that we are studying is the feasibility of implementation in schools. Essentially that means we want get a good picture of what the experience of using Radix is like for teachers. As a bonus, teachers who have had their students play Radix and take the survey will be entered in a raffle to win a $50 Amazon gift card.

Note: If you are still going to do more with Radix this semester, please wait until you're done and then take the survey. Alternatively, if you plan to use Radix again next semester but are done for this semester, please take the survey now!

MIT's Education Arcade and Scheller Teacher Education Program received a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to develop an immersive virtual learning experience to support high school math and biology instruction.  Working collaboratively with teachers, we have created The Radix Endeavor, a multi-player online games for STEM learning that incorporates:
  • A flexible web-based design that allows students to play anywhere, anytime; in school or at home.
  • Quest-based learning aligned with current biology standards in Genetics, Ecosystems, Evolution, and Human Body Systems as well as math standards in Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics.
  • Optional lesson plans and support materials that allow teachers to easily integrate the game into classroom instruction.
