Love Fullerton: An Epic Time to Serve

I love how our church is sharing the spiritual and physical love of Christ with Fullerton. The Love Fullerton project is an example of our missional value. Read on for some vital information created by the Love Fullerton team:

Join our first citywide service day called Love Fullerton on May 17. It is a partnership of 20+ churches, city government, the Mayor and City Council, the Chief of Police, local businesses, service organizations, public and private education and local residents—all working together to enhance the world-class experience of living and working in our city.

Our mission is to demonstrate kindness, meet needs and impact lives together. We are planning for 2,000 volunteers, serving at 50+ different work projects. Along the way, we’ll paint benches, teach life skills to at-risk youth and spruce up some neighborhoods.

We will begin the day with opening festivities at 8:00 am—which includes free food and vendors—followed by an opening rally at 9:00 am. The rally will take place on the plaza at Harbor and Wilshire Ave. (121 E. Wilshire Ave.). After the brief rally, volunteers will connect with project leaders for final instructions and head off to work by 9:30 am. Then, at 1:00 pm, we will gather back together at Hillcrest Park and enjoy lunch together (compliments of Jack Franklyn, owner of Heroes restaurant).

Simply click on the projects link, look over your many options and hit “sign me up!”

The best part of Love Fullerton is that it is a catalyst for the other 364 days of the year. Click on “Other Love Movements” and see how you can be engaged in making a difference throughout the year. Invite a friend, join the movement and let’s work together to make Fullerton even better.

Love Fullerton began out of the success of Love Modesto. Modesto launched in 2007 with two questions: Why is our city on a list of the “worst cities in America”? If our churches were to suddenly disappear from their location, would anyone even care or notice? Motivated by the honest answers to these questions, Love Modesto was born. Now there are over 50 cities participating and Fullerton is the first of what we hope will be many more in SoCal.

Love Fullerton partners with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, the City of Fullerton, local senior centers, Fullerton School District, Fullerton Collaborative, Coast to Coast, Red Cross, Fullerton ACT, F.I.M.A., Pathways of Hope and others. At these serve days, volunteers engage in a variety of activities including food for the hungry, visiting senior centers, donating blood, building a house, and working in city parks and schools, among many other opportunities.

Thanks to the Love Fullerton team for this great event. This will be a great way to serve! See you there.

The 5-Year Plan

One Family’s Journey Through Adoption

by Jennifer Durbin

When we were wed in June of 1986 having children was in “our” 5-year plan. Though Jim and I did not meet him till 1999, our oldest son was born in 1991. Educational and career goals delayed our plans to start a family. Then 10 and 9 years of age, we met our daughter and youngest son in 1997. We became a family through the blessing of adoption . . .

Join EvFree Kids Crew

What if we decided to work together for the faith formation of this generation that is not just knowledgeable about God’s word, but being transformed by it; unashamed to proclaim it as truth?

EvFree Kids is looking for partners in ministry to achieve this dream. We are looking for individuals wanting to use their gifts as small group leaders, administrators and storytellers. It takes nearly 300 ministry partners to make this dream a reality. Please join us! Our new year starts June 8. Pick up an application at our EvFree Kids table on the plaza or contact Arlene Pacheco
