From May 22nd to 25th the citizens of the European Union will vote for a new parliament. Obviously, I won't give any recommendations on what party to vote for. I would simply like to take this occasion to present some of those buildings listed in Structurae that are used by European institutions. I'd also like to point to some other government and public adminstration buildings used at national, regional or municipal levels.

Buildings for European Institutions

The European Union, the Council of Europe and other institutions own or use quite impressive buildings in various cities of Europe. Here are some examples:

Architect Richard Rogers designed the building for the European Court of Human Rights which sits in Strasbourg, France.

Also located in Strasbourg, the Louise Weiss Building serves as the seat of the European Parliament. It was designed by Architecture Studio.

The new skyscraper for the European Central Bank in Frankfurt, Germany, is not quite completed yet. Architects Coop Himmelb(l)au included the old Wholesale Market Hall in the design.

Buildings for Government and Public Administration

Structurae includes quite a number of structures that are used for government or public administration at national, regional or local levels. These types of structure include e.g.:

Most national parliament buildings are already listed in Structurae. One of the most impressive and interesting examples is the Reichstag in Berlin which houses the German Bundestag.
