Showcasing the beauty of the human spirit - in mid air - around the world

“Somehow I can’t believe that there are any heights that can’t be scaled by a man who knows the secrets of making dreams come true. This special secret, it seems to me, can be summarized in four Cs. They are curiosity, confidence, courage, and constancy, and the greatest of all is confidence. When you believe in a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and unquestionable.” - Walt Disney Company

MARC TELIO ...

From: I’m from Montreal.

LIVES: I’ve lived in Vancouver for 20 years.
Work: I own a travel company which welcomes discerning travellers to the most outrageous hotels, resorts and wilderness destinations across Canada and Alaska.

Q: What inspires you to jump for joy?
A:
I’ve always felt blessed. Blessed with amazing travel and life experiences all over the planet. I’ve been lucky enough to summit Mount Kilimanjaro, to fly at Zero Gravity, to pilot a flight and the list of great memories goes on. Blessed by having a wonderfully loving wife and amazing kids. And a large group of beloved family and friends.  Blessed to have created a company and brand that I adore, filled with staff that make it a fun place to work. Oh. And golf.

Q. Your experience doing jumping photos?
A:
I loved it! Admittedly a bit sweaty…but good for the soul.

Q: What inspires you in life?
A:
Authentic experiences which allow you to visit with local cultures, and in the process contributing to the sustainability and development of the local economy. It’s all about contribution to others in the end. I have many friends who own lodges and resorts in many exotic corners of the world and, through travel, they welcome visitors, showcase their region and support their local economies. There are many ways to give back. I hope my legacy shows a long track record of contribution to others.

Q: Your greatest passion?
A:
You can tell by now, but travel is one thing. Add my family to that and you get traveling with my family. I love exposing my wife and kids to amazing experiences and cultures. Other passions: food. I love food and cooking. Golf (obviously), fishing, wildlife viewing. I have had several close encounters with grizzly bears, polar bears and black bears. This summer I’m taking my family to Klemtu, BC to visit with the Kermode Bear.

Q: Your driving force?
A:
Being a leader in my field and having fun doing it. I’d hate to feel like I am not maximizing on my potential and leaving opportunities on the table. Also, being my best as a husband and father. My family deserve that.

Q: Philosophy?
A:
First, I try to live life to the fullest every day. Life is short and I try to make the most of it. And while we’re at it, I try to give back and be a positive on this planet. To contribute in my own little ways. I believe that what you put out there comes back to you.

Q: Anything in the world?
A: I hate to be boring, but in many ways I’m doing what I want to do and I really want for nothing. Aside from taking 10 strokes off my golf game (I’m not kidding), I’m spending my time with a good balance and on things which I want to do every day. I suppose that the top of my list is to bring my family to India and the Maldives for our next big trip. We had that trip planned for 2008 but cancelled as the economic slump hit home. I went when I was 19 and can’t wait to get back. Otherwise…I’m doing it!

Q. Working on?
A:
I’m always envisioning the next move for my business. This past year we did a deal that will evolve my company into the next phase of business, it took only three years. My industry changes with lightening speed, so I do spend lots of time contemplating the next move and what it will take to stay ahead of the curve.

Q: Mini bio, interesting facts about you or something special you want to share.
A:
Born in Montreal, spent my first 20 years there before taking my first trip to Asia. I spent time in India, Nepal, Japan for 1.5 years, most of SE Asia, Australia for a year, Africa and parts of Europe. When I was 24 yrs old I opened my company and met my wife (same year). 20 years later I’m still lucky to be in love, happily married and to have survived in my industry through the many curveballs we’ve been given…9/11, SARS, 2008….

We have two amazing kids, a daughter who is almost 16 and a son who is turning 14. We have tons of fun as a family unit. Things in my future? Would like to pilot small aircraft, thinking about teaching again and…winning the Masters while my wife leads the women’s tour (she currently does not golf). Can’t we dream a bit?
