First Lady Michelle Obama Visits SCPKU
The First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, spoke at SCPKU on March 22 and said study abroad allows students to realize that countries all have a stake in each other's success. New Immersive Classrooms Connect Stanford Globally
In collaboration with Stanford's Graduate School of Business, an SCPKU Anchor Program, the Center unveiled two new immersive classrooms earlier this year which enrich the overall student experience and increase Stanford's online and distance education program's impact. SCPKU's Executive Director, Andy Andreasen, shares more about the development of these classrooms with Stanford's Office of International Affairs. Read more.

Stanford PACS Hosts August Workshop
China-US Strategic Philanthropy Partnership (CUSP) will hold its fourth annual workshop at SCPKU August 28-29, 2014. The event will be hosted by the Stanford Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society (PACS), an SCPKU Anchor Program, which develops and shares knowledge to improve philanthropy, strengthen civil society and effect social change. Participation will be by invitation only.

April 21 Hepatitis B Conference
Stanford's Asian Liver Center (ALC) hosted a conference on the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of hepatitis B through timely immunization at birth and education of healthcare providers for hospital, CDC and health officials from China Gansu and Qinghai provinces. The event's main focus was to discuss the progress of an ongoing Jade Ribbon campaign to train healthcare providers using an online training course and educate women who are pregnant or of child bearing age with both print and multimedia educational materials developed by the ALC. An SCPKU Anchor Program, the ALC addresses the disproportionately high rates of chronic hepatitis B infection and liver cancer caused by hepatitis B in Asians and Asian Americans. China happens to have the greatest burden with 100 million people living with chronic hepatitis B resulting in half a million deaths each year from liver cancer and liver disease.
