Czech Republic, United Kingdom, Ireland, Netherlands, Bulgaria and Slovakia: multipliers motivated to set up Operational Groups
Stakeholders from six European countries participated in the workshop ‘Establishing Operational Groups under Rural Development Programmes’ which was hosted by the Czech Ministry of Agriculture and the Managing Authority for the Rural Development Programme in Prague on 7 May. The workshop was the fourth in a series of five workshops aiming to stimulate the setting-up of Operational Groups. On 22 May, the last workshop of this series will be held in Paris, France for stakeholders from Belgium, France, Italy, Luxemburg and Romania. This workshop is hosted by the French Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry. Information on this workshop can be found here

Farming guidelines to deal with contaminated land in the Slovenian Upper Mežiška Valley
Due to a long tradition of mining and metallurgical activities in the area, 181 farmers – with a total of 1650ha –are struggling with an accumulation of heavy metals in their soil and plants. An interactive innovation project showed the farming community how to deal with this issue. Read more |

We are looking for innovative actions that can deliver relevant practical solutions and that are "ready for use" in the field or can easily be put in practice. Such innovative actions can include the development of new products, services, processes, or organisational models and they can be technical, technological or social. This also includes traditional or already known product, services or processes which can be tested in new situations or contexts. One-stop-shop for agricultural innovation to be launched
The new EIP-AGRI website, with exciting and interactive features, will be launched by the end of May. Visitors will easily be able to connect with partners and discover funding opportunities for innovation projects.
This web tool will be interactive, and registered users will be able to share innovative ideas and practices, information about research projects as well as their results by using the easy-to-use e-forms on the website. Various EIP-AGRI-related publications will be available for download on the website, providing visitors with information on a wide range of interesting topics.
Through this collaborative effort, the EIP-AGRI website will become a one-stop-shop for agricultural innovation in Europe.

80 new experts start work on four new topics
Following a call which closed 8 April, experts for the next four Focus Groups have been selected and their first meetings will be held in June and July. The groups will explore practical innovative solutions and opportunities related to High Nature Value farming profitability, mainstreaming precision farming, profitability of permanent grassland, and fertiliser efficiency with a focus on horticulture in the open field. Each Focus Group will seek to answer its own set of specific questions on their topic.

Inspiration to diminish yield gaps in Organic Farming
After a year's work, the EIP-AGRI Focus Group on Organic Farming has issued a report on how to reduce the yield gap in Organic Farming. The report includes proposals for topics that Operational Groups could work on, practical solutions which have already been implemented in some areas of Europe and recommendations for future research topics. Focus Group on Protein Crops: a two-headed challenge
The Focus Group on Protein Crops produced a final report on how to improve the competitiveness of protein crops producers in the EU. According to the group, a lot of progress can be made at local scale, however, to improve yield, good advisory services for farmers and breeding will not be enough for the larger scale protein production for processed feed. The issue covers stories on interactive innovation projects, opportunities under rural development policy and Horizon 2020, ideas for dissemination of innovation and much more.

New issue of Research*eu
Research*eu focus is a magazine published by DG Research and Innovation where each issue covers a specific topic of research interest. This edition focusses on the theme ‘Towards a sustainable food future’, featuring articles on EU policies, initiatives, programmes and projects related to research and technological development and their exploitation. The magazine includes an article on ‘Agricultural research and the bioeconomy: our bread and butter’ with comments from Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, as well as an interview with Niels Gøtke, coordinator of the ICT-AGRI ERA-NET on ‘Drones have EU crop fields covered’. Amongst many other things, it also features an article on how ERA-NETs are building up a European research community in the agri-food sector and a piece on the nine European Technology Platforms (ETPs) that are working under FP7 projects to define and refine Strategic Research Agendas for the future bioeconomy.
