MAY 2014

As we raise a glass to celebrate American Craft Beer Week, I am reaching out with some sales and marketing updates from my personal favorite craft brewery in the USA.

Education is Essential

In our March Newsletter, we shared a video to reveal the new Green Flash packaging design and explain the key features and benefits of our new labels/carriers as well as how and why we are redefining many of the Green Flash beer styles. By offering a list of key ingredients & tasting notes along with a behind the scenes story detailing the inspiration and brewing process for each front-line beer, our new packaging offers accessible education to the consumer at point of sale.

It is imperative that your sales team is equipped with the right information to educate retailers about all of these significant brand changes.  If you haven’t shared the video with your team yet, please pass it along!

The new packages are hitting your warehouse as you read this and we encourage you and your team to take a look.

Please check the art-room on the distributor portal of the Green Flash website regularly for up-to-date brand assets and POS to support the new packaging and to educate the consumer.

ROAD WARRIOR - Our Bold New National Release

The latest Green Flash seasonal release is Road Warrior™ - an Imperial Rye IPA available in 12oz 4-packs, 22oz bottles and on draft from May through August; it should be in your warehouse now!  Rolling into the market hot on the heels of Palate Wrecker, we anticipate Road Warrior will follow in the footsteps of that heavy hitter and look forward to a successful season.  Released as “Imperial Red Rye” in the 2013 Hop Odyssey lineup, this beer was an immediate fan favorite and a best seller. Due to the high demand from customers AND our own sales team, Road Warrior was brewed and named for the Green Flash Sales Team (a.k.a. our fearless “Road Warriors”).

In addition to kicking off a national PR campaign, we have introduced an interactive social media program to promote Road Warrior, and we encourage you to get involved:

  • FIRST: “Like” us on Facebook and follow us on Instagram and Twitter @greenflashbeer.
  • NEXT: Take a picture of a Road Warrior bottle staged next to some of the finer (or funnier) landmarks in your market and share them on social media with the hashtag #greenflashbeer as well as #roadwarriorwashere
  • LOOK: We will be posting the best pics from our feeds throughout Road Warrior season; you may find your picture in the mix!

Don’t forget to download the Road Warrior sales tools, event templates and other POS on the portal today, then get out there and hit the road full-throttle with this flavorful new release.

New Sales Team Members
As we mentioned in last month’s communication, we are committed to growing our sales team from coast to coast.  Introducing our newest team members and official Road Warriors:
  • Aaron Miller is our new SoCal South DM covering Orange County, South L.A., Inland Empire and Las Vegas.
  • Jose Lira is the first Chain Merchandiser to join our team, and he will be based in San Diego.  He will support our distributors’ chain efforts in the market and we are excited to have him on board.
  • Bryan Lee is our new PacNW rep based in Seattle also covering Idaho and Montana
  • Luis Carrizo is a seasoned distributor veteran with a proven track record who is managing our Southern Florida business. Luis is based in Miami.
  • Karl Blackledge is going to help take our brand to new heights in Northern Florida based out of Orlando.
  • Tara Aclure joins us from JJ Taylor in Minnesota where she was a craft brand manager and is highly regarded in the craft beer community. Tara will oversee Minnesota (dontchyaknow).
  • Tyler Nelson joins us from New Holland in Georgia. Tyler is our new Atlanta based DM who will be covering So. Carolina and Alabama.
We are also adding additional DM’s in Northern California, Northern Los Angeles/ the Central Coast of CA, Austin, Michigan as well as a merchandiser in San Francisco. Most of these positions are close to being filled and we look forward to introducing the team in our next newsletter!

National Accounts Update
As you may know, Rick Laxague has taken on the role of National Accounts Manager for Green Flash. Because our national distribution network has grown, Rick is committed to increased communication and idea sharing about how we can work as a team to grow the chain business in each of your markets.
  1. Chain Account Managers:  How can we sell more beer together? Please contact Rick via email rick.laxague@greenflashbrew.com  to relay all market specific needs so we can work as a team toward sales growth.
  2. Pricing:   Please email the current pricing of our portfolio to pricing@greenflashbrew.com so Rick is able to submit New Item Forms (NIFs) to the buyers in a timely manner.
  3. Regional Chains:  Help us identify what local chains in your market we may be missing. What can Rick and our team do to earn the business of these retailers?  Email ideas to Rick!

Bill Backs
Just to reiterate, all bill backs must go through your RSM or DM to be reconciled via the marketing buckets. If you have any questions on the process, please reach out for your local Green Flash RSM / DM to walk you through it.

HUNGWAH,
Jim Kenny
