Get Outside!
 The Mountaineers is a century-old, volunteer-driven organization committed to helping people explore, conserve and enjoy the lands and waters of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. They offer about 5,000 courses and activities a year which are taught, led or coordinated by over 1,000 volunteer leaders.
Unfortunately, The Mountaineers were hamstrung for years by clunky technology that got in the way of the audiences they were trying to reach and engage. The platform was inefficient, hard for volunteer leaders to administer and a big obstacle for new people who wanted to get involved with classes or activities.
It’s now a new era. Last month we launched mountaineers.org. It is a site that maps exactly to the Mountaineers' strategic goals and integrates seamlessly with a custom Salesforce database. The Mountaineers now have a single reference point for every contact in their universe with all engagement history — donations, volunteering, activity and course participation, email responsiveness, etc. We were excited to partner with Jazkarta, Neal Maher and Ethicalux on this great project. We've finally hit the less-rainy season in Seattle, when everyone puts down their coffee cups to get outside (or pretend to get outside). So, here's what's on our minds during this less-rainy season:

$22.55 an hour? That's what Independent Sector's annual report calculated for the value of each volunteer hour. How much are your volunteer hours worth to your organization?
62 million volunteers
About 62 million Americans (about 1 in 4) volunteered last year. That's a lot of people to keep track of and to re-engage. Our favorite way to keep track of volunteers? Volunteers for Salesforce. Great volunteer management features and because it runs right in Salesforce, you can track and boost volunteer engagement with your fundraising and advocacy campaigns. We find that often our clients' data is hidden in all sorts of places from legal pads to aging Access databases, but 28,000 file cabinets of paper records in an old mine takes the cake.
