Writers Wanted
Welcome to the second of our very occasional calls for submissions.
As you may know, this year Spiral Nature brought on board a bunch of lovely new writers, but we still don't have many women or people of colour writing for us. I'd like to change that.
If you're interested, or know anyone who is, please forward this email to them. I'd love hear from the wider community.
Magick
- Mirror magick. Rituals or spellwork involving mirrors.
- Working with the Goetia. Tips for working with Goetic entities.
- Magick words. History, culture, and use.
- Magical practice. What does it mean to practice magick?
- Authority. What is magical authority? Who, or what, determines it, and how does it come into play in one's work?
Spirituality
- Offering disposal. Explore safe ways to dispose of offerings that's respectful and environmentally friendly?
- Ancestor work. How do you commune with your ancestors, either recent or long passed?
- Mindfulness. Cultivating mindfulness every day, and the benefits of this practice.
- Sacred gardens. Could be kitchen witches in action, or a look environmental responsibility, etc.
- Life altars. Altars for special occasions such as celebrating birthdays, deathdays, the birth of one's children, new careers, etc.
Culture
- Heroic women. Historical, mythical, and fictional heroic archetypes for women.
- Cultural appropriation. The ethical and political implications.
- Trend pieces. Spot a trend in media -- publishing, television, new blogs starting up -- report on it, let us know what's happening and why.
Pitching
These are just a few ideas. If you are interested in writing one of these pieces, drop me an email with a full pitch (ideas for the article, contacts you might have, writing r other relevant experience you have).
If you have an idea for a pitch that doesn't meet any of the categories or outlines above, that's totally cool, I'm still interested. Send in your idea! I'm excited to see what you come up with.
If you are assigned an article, I'll send our guidelines, writer's agreement, and a deadline. If you don't see a good fit now, there will be plenty more opportunities to write on the way.
Contributors are paid within 30 days of publication, either via PayPal or in trade (your choice). If you have questions about payment or about pitching, please feel free to email me at editor@spiralnature.com.
I'd love to hear from people who want to become regular contributors, occasional contributors, or even just write a one-off piece.
I look forward to reading your pitches!
Thanks,
