2014 Proves a Busy Year

The first half of 2014 is one of OCM Manufacturing's busiest yet. Our second line, which went into operation in 2013, has enabled us to fulfill increased orders from existing and new customers alike.

We've also been on the road, speaking with OEMs from across Canada, and our client base continues to expand throughout North America.

Our success translates into benefits for you, our customers. Our experience in a wide range of industries continues to grow, as does our experience with new technologies (like flex circuits) and smaller form factors. Our ability to stock and manage inventory is strong, and we have additional manpower to service clients.

We're never too busy to sit down with you to discuss your new products, supporting your customer-specific projects, or taking over the manufacture of existing projects.

We are pleased to be serving you!

George Henning, President
OCM Manufacturing

Prototyping Matters

At OCM, we provide a dedicated prototyping service. Prototyping with your contract manufacturer (or intended/future CM) makes good sense in terms of efficiency, quality, and smooth hand-over once volume production begins.

The prototyping phase is exciting and often chaotic, with many things needing to occur simultaneously, including design and design changes, materials selection, procurement, inventory planning, and scheduling on the manufacturing line.

We've developed these two resources to help ensure that your prototyping experience is as successful as possible:
.

Materials supply considerations for successful prototypes

A contact manufacturer (CM) is an excellent resource to tap when developing an electronic prototype.

In addition to providing a professionally assembled prototype, your CM can also provide feedback to ensure that the product will be cost-effective to manufacture down the line.

These best practices will help you to help your CM manufacture an accurate PCB prototype.  Read it >>

Best practices for achieving fast turn-around on prototypes

The best prototypes are of high quality and are turned around very quickly, to ensure that you can get back to work on your design with minimal downtime.

This DFM Tip provides a checklist of straight-forward things you can do to speed the turn-around (and help ensure the quality) of your prototype PCB. Read the tip >>

MIT Prof Cautions re: Costs of Offshoring

This Manufacturing.Net article reports that research by MIT Sloan School of Management Visiting Prof. Suzanne de Treville finds that it’s often more costly than companies think to offshore.

At OCM, we offer a managed offshoring service, which we engage on a customer-by-customer basis, when the business model makes sense. It's about providing you with options and strong cost analysis.

It Takes a Village to Design a Product

We liked this Design News blog -- the author talks about product design as a team sport, and we couldn't agree more.

In our experience, the SINGLE MOST CRITICAL FACTOR in the success of an electronics product is Design For Manufacturing -- which means that the Contract Manufacturer is involved from as early as possible during product design.

It's never too early to get us involved -- please contact us!
