Side casting

Following last month's article in the newsletter AustStab we were contacted by a member asking why we didn't speak to the economic, social and environmental benefits of side casting. We often try to present the technical position first, to ensure that state road agencies, consultants and contractors are provided with the most technically accurate current information available.

We believe that there are many potential benefits to side casting. Some of these were highlighted last year by the Highly Commended Award Winner Nambucca Shire Council. A copy of their award presentation is available by clicking here.

This month we presented to RMS (NSW) on the benefits of sidecasting. The presentation will be available shortly on the Intranet for all members to utilise as a resource when talking to LGA and SRA.

Some of these benefits include being able to reuse materials from a lower or upper level of the pavement after correcting the pavement deficiencies in the lower levels. The process allows pavement materials to be fully recycled by stabilising the side cast materials. Reduced truck movements and increased rate of production by having materials available insitu are all obvious benefits.

Opportunity for Discussion with International Expert in Lime

AustStab are delighted to be involved in supporting the Department of Transport and Main Roads Engineering Transport Forum 2014. We encourage interested people to attend the workshops and key note speeches delivered by Professor Dallas Little (Texas A&M Transportation Institute) as part of the event.

Early bird registration for the event 9-11 September 2014 is now open. More information is available by clicking here.

Transport Infrastructure Product Evaluation Scheme (TIPES)

TIPES - is a national scheme which is currently in the pilot phase of development. It is designed to evaluate new road building products, which we affectionately refer to as snake oils.

The process involves assessment by an expert panel (inclusive of road agency representatives), who determine what is required to substantiate proponents claims.

ARRB will host a webinar on 14 August 2014. Click here for information.

AustStab Conference 2014 - Registration now open!

AustStab will host the 19th Annual AGM and 3rd Annual Awards dinner on 18 - 20 August 2014 at the Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley - Shooting for the Stars.

Industry sectors such as the binder suppliers have committed to providing a state of play and forecasts as part of the program.
