June 2014

Message from the President, Darren Hall

Dear <<First Name>>,

A fantastic first half against Tatura showed just what we are capable of with hard work. Unfortunately that sort of hard work and momentum couldn't be maintained in the second half and we suffered a fairly large defeat. However, a great four quarter effort was shown last weekend in Mansfield and we came away with a 70 point win. Another very pleasing outcome so far this season is the number of young local boys who are getting the chance to play senior football. So far this season we have had Rhys McKenzie, Clayton Oliver, Jy Simpkin, Daniel Schaper and Liam Betson make their senior debuts, as well as Dean Smith and Jake Cormick continuing in the seniors. Out of these boys, Schapes is the only player no longer eligible for our thirds. It was also great to see Tom Casey run out in the seniors last week for the first time in around four years due to a number of serious injuries.

Our reserves and thirds are both traveling nicely at the moment and are both in the top four on their respective ladders. We will be hosting an Under 18 & Under 17 luncheon on June 28 when we play Kyabram. All players and families of both teams are invited and invitations will be sent out very shortly. This is a great way for the junior families to hear what's happening in the club this year and our plans for the future.

Our netballers too have recently had a few wins and there is definitely a great feeling amongst the netball group this year. The new netball rooms were recently officially opened by Cr Dennis Patterson, and they are certainly now some of the best netball facilities in the GVFL.

The MFNC Blue Ribbon Ball will be held on Saturday the 14th of June following our away game against Benalla. We are back at the Sir Ian McLennan Centre this year and the night starts at 7pm. For more information and to purchase your tickets on line, please click HERE.

I was lucky enough to attend the GVFL Hall of Fame announcement last Sunday night at the Shepparton RSL Club where two of our Legends Ray Willett and Gary Cooper, were inducted into the GVFL Hall of Fame. To read more about it, see the story below.

Memberships are the lifeblood of any football netball club and we have always had tremendous numbers of supporters who step up and become members. You can now sign up for membership and pay online through our website. It's not too late to still get good value from a membership as we still have seven home games to go this season. Click HERE to go to our online store to buy a membership.

You are welcome to forward Cat Chat to anyone who you believe would be interested in receiving this monthly newsletter, but I would also encourage them to subscribe to Cat Chat on our website by clicking HERE.
