Strong candidates chosen for Adaptation Learning Exchange
From a very strong field of candidates we have chosen 9 public bodies to be part of our Adaptation Learning Exchange (ALE) – an innovative new mentoring programme which will allow participants to work collaboratively on adaptation planning in their organisations.

Scottish Government publishes Adaptation Programme
The Scottish Government has published Scotland’s first statutory Climate Change Adaptation Programme 'Climate Ready Scotland - Scottish Climate Change Adaptation Programme'.

Adaptation Scotland has worked closely with the Scottish Government to support the development of the programme.

Managing large estates for climate adaptation
Most of Scotland’s rural land – 83% - belongs to private estates. In 2012 half of this land was owned by only 432 individuals or companies. A new report from ClimateXChange looks at to what extent land estate managers see the need for climate change adaptation, and  discusses how policy support for these estates can be more effective in the future.

Scottish adaptation on the international agenda
Delegates at the recent Adaptation Futures conference in Fort Aleza in Brazil heard about Scottish work on tracking how well we are adapting to climate change.

At risk of flooding?
Have you experienced flooding or are you at the risk of flooding at your home or in your business? If so, researchers at the University of Edinburgh invite you to take part in a survey on flood risk management.

The purpose of the study is to better understand the motivations of people to manage flood risk.

MetOffice warns of summer downpurs
Extreme summer rainfall may become more frequent in the UK due to climate change. This is the conclusion in a recent MetOffice report.

Using a state state-of-the-art climate model, the research provides the first evidence that hourly summer rainfall rates could increase even if summers overall will become drier by 2100.

Designing for future climate
The Design for future climate (D4FC) competition was set up to encourage the incorporation of climate change adaptation in the design of real construction and refurbishment projects in the UK.

The case studies from the competition show the impact that embedded adaptation strategies can have on design decisions.

R!SE Initiative Launched
The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) has launched the R!SE Initiative to mainstream disaster risk management into corporate planning and investment decision-making. The initiative brings together leading names in business, investment, insurance, the public sector, business education and civil society to develop and promote global standards on risk metrics and voluntary industry standards for disaster risk-sensitive investment.

A new report from the Climate Outreach and Information Network (COIN) recommends ways in which the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports could present their findings in better, more engaging, and ultimately more useful ways.

Case study on flood resilience in india
Flooding and waterlogging are recurring problems in Gorakhpur, India. A new case study looks at the economic and nonfinancial returns of adaptive, resilient shelter designs that take into consideration hazards such as flooding and temperature increases.
