Large Food Shipment to North Korea
272,000 Meals
This week the Han-Schneider International Children's Foundation shipped out a 40-ft. container of nutritious meal packs to hungry orphans in North Korea. Donated by our dedicated partner Feed My Starving Children, the container was comprised of 272,000 meals, along with 500 backpacks, and will sustain the children for the next five months.
The shipment was much needed as the country is entering a season known as "Chungunggi," a season between harvests that will stretch the already meager rations. This year the United Nation’s Food Agriculture Organization (FAO) determined that North Korea will still be in a food deficit, leaving tens of thousands still starving. The FAO report states, “North Korea suffers from chronic food shortages with the average amount of rice and corn consumed by the people said to be only half of the daily consumption recommended by the United Nations.â€
This shipment will provide high level of nutrients and protein that will alleviate the hunger pains and malnutrition suffered by the children. "Sam Han Classic"
Golf Tournament
Fun & Memorable with a Great Turnout
The first annual "Sam Han Classic" Charity Golf Tournament took place on Thursday, May 22, at the Montebello Country Club and drew more than 100 excited participants. All in attendance received goody bags that included Han-Schneider personalized tees to a hat and divot fixer. They also enjoyed a post-tournament BBQ and a few words from Executive Director Arthur Han and Director of Operations Zachary Lopez. While there were two hole-in-one challenges, one for $10,000 cash and one for a new Ford Mustang, unfortunately no one was able to get that elusive ace.
In total, the event raised more than $20,000 in funds for the HSICF programs in North Korea, Cambodia and Tanzania. Thank you to everyone who attended the tournament, as well as our generous sponsors who made this great event possible.
