Up Summit: What Happened in Vegas Won't Stay in Vegas
Last week, 525 people from 75 countries traveled to Las Vegas for the largest grassroots gathering of startup community leaders on the planet. Up Summit, organized by Up Global, included organizers and facilitators for StartupWeekend, Startup NEXT and Startup Education as well as StartupDigest curators. SARTA's Laura Good represented the Sacramento region at the Summit. Innovative ideas for building strong startup communities were shared during the 3-day conference and highlights included a Zappos tour, a carnival-style celebration party hosted by Google for Entrepreneurs, and a Startup Women Dinner that kicked off a new initiative by Up Global to encourage more women to become entrepreneurs. Laura brought back many ideas to share with Sacramento's startup community and invites you to signup here if you are interested in attending a meetup on her Up Summit learnings.
Velocity Venture Capital Uses "American Idol” Format for Entrepreneurs Showcase Accelerator Program
Velocity Venture Capital will use popular votes and video presentations to help weed through applicants for its fifth annual Entrepreneurs Showcase, which last year drew hundreds of applicants for 10 spots in its intensive 8 - 12 week boot camp. The bootcamp is designed to ignite, accelerate, and capitalize startups by helping them through aspects of the startup lifecycle such as refining the business model, legal guidance and intellectual property, and scaling the business. The program also helps entrepreneurial companies prepare for an opportunity to present in front of an audience of venture capital and angel investors.
