From The President


What a wonderful start to the growing season for the Shires Farmers, and all our landowners will benefit.

BUDGET – The process of setting the 14/15 budget is under way so any late Community requests need to be given to the CEO as soon as possible to be considered.

Canberra - The CEO and myself will be attending the Australian Local Government Assembly. Our main concern is to lobby for the retention of direct Federal funding for individual Councils. Federal Government Consultants have recommended that the practice should end and that State Governments should be responsible.  Our Shire benefits greatly so funding  totally in the hands of State Governments, who are generally battling their own shortfalls, may not be helpful. Funding has been promised for the next three years, after that, is the concern, hence the need for political pressure.

Communication - We will also be meeting with the Federal Department of Communication to put our case for share of one hundred million dollars Australia wide for more infrastructure and hopefully end the black spots that plague us. So far 2000 locations over 500 shires have been noted as requiring service. Unfortunately country people are very much discriminated against in this City Centric Economy.

Coronation Beach Emergency Plan

Shire of Chapman Valley have been successful in receiving funds to put together an emergency evacuation plan for Coronation Beach.  The plan will include a risk assessment, threat of fire, evacuation procedures and signage for incident managers, local emergency management committee and visitors.

New Fire Truck


A brand new Isuzu 4-4 was delivered to the Nabawa Brigade on the 29 April and drives like a car with all the gear and cruise control, plus holding 4000 litres of water. The Shire plan to organise an event after cropping to familiarise volunteers with the unit.

East Nabawa Road Closure 


A section of East Nabawa Road will be closed for a temporary period from the 4th June - 9th June.  Strictly no vehicles will be permitted during this time.  We apologise for any inconvenience.

Alternative route is Hipper Road to the south.

Differential Rates Intention

 
Notice is hereby given to ratepayers of the intention of the Shire of Chapman Valley to levy the following differential rates for the 2014/2015 rating year:

General Rates

UV Rural 0.9153 c:$
UV Oakajee Industrial Estate 1.8306 c:$

Minimum Payments
GRV 516.00
UV Rural 325.00
UV Oakajee Industrial Estate 325.00
 
All submissions in writing with reference to the proposed differential rates or minimum payments should be forwarded to the Shire of Chapman Valley no later than 4pm on 13 June 2014.

 Local Photo's Call Out


Have you taken some great photo’s in and around Chapman Valley?     The Shire of Chapman Valley would love to obtain a copy for their records and use on various documents and publications.  We would love some fresh photo’s for our files.  You will be acknowledged for your contribution on the publication where it is used.  Photo's can be emailed through to the Shire office.

Survey on Regional Rural & Remote Australia


Australian Rural Leadership Foundation are interested in your perceptions and attitudes to and about rural, regional and remote Australia.  They are looking to identify key issues, challenges and opportunities faced by individuals and communities.
 
The survey takes approximately 10 mins.
 
Survey results will contribute supporting evidence that will assist in identifying potential leadership challenges that will benefit communities and industry of regional, rural and remote Australia and particularly to determine the types of stories that need to be told that are currently missing about regional, rural and remote Australia. 
2014 Chapman Valley Show

The 2014 Show is set to be another huge event and a fantastic way to showcase Chapman Valley to some 6000 visitors.  The event is run entirely by volunteers and this year the committee are seeking 6 people willing to help out for 2 hours on Show Day, 6th September. 

Tasks include running errands, totalling up points tallies and other small activities.  Your help will be greatly appreciated and help our day run smoothly.

Regular users can register with the site and add their own events directly, and help is always at hand - the Event Nation team will place your content, images and supporting documents into the calendar if required.  Read more...

The Shire of Chapman Valley hereby gives public notice of its Ordinary Council meeting for 2014:

Council will meet at 9.00am in the Council Chambers at Nabawa (3270 Chapman Valley Road) on each ordinary meeting date.

Grants


HERITAGE GRANTS PROGRAM

Now open for applications, the program will provide $1 million in grants to assist private owners of State Registered places to undertake urgent conservation works.  Grants of up to $100,000 are available through a competitive application process, with owners required to match funds on the projects. 
Private owners of State Registered places have been advised in writing of the Program which closes on Friday 18 July 2014.   
Queries can be directed to the Senior Grants Administrator on P: 6552 4000.  More information available through the State Heritage Office. 



 
RAC COMMUNITY SPONSORSHIPS

Grants up to $5000 available for projects that encourage safe driving, less emissions or public transport.  Any small projects that empower and strengthen local communities. Application under $5000 will be accepted all year round.  If between $5000 and $20 000, the next grants round closes 20th June 2014.

STATE NRM PROGRAM COMMUNITY GRANTS

To support activities of local community groups grants between $10 000 and $50 000 are available. Projects that help conserve, restore, rehabilitate or enhance a local natural area or conserve biodiversity. On-ground works, as well as planning, training and resource assessment activities are eligible.

HEALTH PROMOTING SCHOOLS GRANT

Grants of up to $2,500 are offered to support WA schools to develop projects that promote the health of their students. Schools are encouraged to undertake activities that promote the priority health areas of mental health, nutrition and/or physical activity.

Applications must be received by Healthway a minimum of three calendar months prior to the commencement of the project.

Ambulance Call Out Procedure


THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW /THINGS TO DO IF YOU ARE RINGING FOR AN AMBULANCE

RING 000

1. You need to give your name and contact number.

2. You need to give the location of the casualty/accident (location needs to include the road number, road, nearest cross street, town/area and nearest ambulance centre, i.e. Chapman Valley Ambulance Sub-centre)

3. Number of casualties and type of injuries/problems

4. Follow the prompts and answer additional information as asked by the operator

If you live on a farm then additional information will help (farm name, name of the owner of the property or name of who lives at the property, approximately how many km's the farm is from the main road) and if possible it will also help if someone is available to to the main road to guide the ambulance into the property, especially at night.

Remember: The operators are based in Perth so additional information may be required to assist them in locating the nearest sub centre and getting you the help you need as soon as possible.
