Jimmy Fallon, Justin Timberlake and hashtags? 24 million views on YouTube. Jimmy Fallon, Emma Stone and an epic lip sync battle? 21 million views on YouTube. Using YouTube to engage viewers while driving The Tonight Show’s ratings? Priceless. Since his debut in February, Jimmy Fallon has been driving buzz for The Tonight Show – and not just because of clever bits with celebrity guests on screen. Fallon has also made a name for himself by using social media to make his best bits go viral. By sharing content when and where his target viewers are most likely to find it, Fallon has begun to build up a new audience for the show: the coveted 18-49 demographic. For the past few weeks, Jimmy Fallon has had higher ratings in the 18-49 demographic than David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel combined, plus he's been consistently exceeding Jay Leno's numbers from 2013. Thanks in large part to social media, Jimmy Fallon is establishing the “next generation” of late night TV.
