June 2014 Newsletter

Hello Summer!

Hot days, warm nights, and (hopefully) less traffic have signaled us to the official start of summer on campus. This typically slower period for event planners provides a chance to reorganize before the fall semester. Read our blog article about how we use the summer to prepare for the rest of the year. Read on for the newest content on our Special Events blog.

ECN Highlights and News

Summer Field Trip Series: AMAC Tour

Our first Summer Field Trip Series was a huge success! We visited the AMAC Accessibility Solutions and Resource Center, where ECN members explored resources that help make events more accessible. Read more here.

Protocol Pointers, Part 2

In February, we hosted Georgia’s Chief Protocol Officer Abby Turano. For those who weren’t able to attend (or need a refresher), we are happy to share the first segment of a two-part series highlighting her suggestions, resources, and ideas. Read more here.

ECN Answers

Q: What am I required to do if a guest is injured or sick at my event?
A: For any injury or sickness at your event, you are required to complete the proper report.

If the person is a Georgia Tech employee (faculty, staff, work-study student), complete the Injury and Illness Report, found on the EHS website. For significant issues that require medical treatment, the departmental supervisor must notify the Office of Environmental Health & Safety within 24 hours.

If the person is not associated with Georgia Tech, you will need to contact Tom Provancher, Director of Insurance, Claims & Property as soon as possible and complete an incident report

Incident reporting is an important part of protecting us as event planners, our guests, and the university. Gather as much information as you can while you are still at the event to help build your report, including photos when appropriate.

Click here to review the Injury and Illness Reporting Guidelines. If you still have questions, contact the Office of Environmental Health & Safety.
