*NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS*
Celtic Piping Concert & Session
at the National Celtic Festival, Portarlington
Our wonderful Celtic Piping Club was launched at the National Celtic Festival at Portarlington in 2013. The launch included an acoustic Celtic Piping Concert followed by a 'come & try' session for the public - both of which were very successful and enjoyed by the public.
Well, it's that time of year again. Yes, the National Celtic Festival is only just around the corner...this weekend, in fact! This year we'll be hosting another acoustic Celtic Piping Concert, at 1pm on Saturday 7 June at St. John's Church, Portarlington. This is a ticketed venue, but it's well worth purchasing a ticket for the Festival...there'll be so many great bands to see this year, including many featuring various pipes. The Celtic Piping Concert this year will feature a number of local pipers, showcasing various types of Celtic pipes. We are also excited about our special guest piper, Ali Levack, from Scotland! Ali has studies pipes at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and is over here as part of the Fèis Rois crew.
We'll also be hosting a Pop-up Piping Session on Saturday, 7.30pm Upstairs at The Grand. So, come along and share a tune or two.
Some of the piping highlights include:
Saturday
1pm - Acoustic Pipers Concert @ St. John's Church
1.30pm - Tuning Bagpipes Workshop with Murray Blair @ the Community Room
4pm - A Brief History of Piping with Geoff Jones @ the Community Room
7.30pm - Pop-up Celtic Piping Session @ Upstairs at The Grand (not in program)
Sunday
4.30pm - VPA 'Music of the Great Highland Bagpipes' @ The Club Room
6.40pm - Claymore & Piping Idol @ the Celtic Club
and many bands with pipers, including Working Dog Union, Aniar, Beyond High Street, Taliska, Señor Cabrales, Fèis Rois, and the Likely Celts, who will be launching their new CD.
The Celtic Piping & Drumming Program will be bigger & better than ever this year and the full program is available on the National Celtic Festival website. We look forward to seeing you there!
