  1. A Message from the KAC Team
  2. June 2014 Events & Updates

After being active for over two years, we regretfully announce that KAC will will be closing its doors permanently as of 30 June 2014.

All our operations, exhibitions and programs after the end of June will cease.

We will host our final Closing Event on the 15th of June at 6:30 PM.

A message from Mayssa Fattouh, Artistic Director & Curator of KAC

For the past two years Katara Art Center’s program was able to bring a diverse variety of disciplines and areas of knowledge to the public – accessibly, but without sacrificing content or integrity.

KAC quickly became a pillar for arts and culture platforms in Doha yet with an impact and influence that extended beyond its physical space.

Operating as a ground-level social enterprise, KAC is a catalyst and incubator of ideas emerging from Doha’s communities and actively engaged creative individuals. This sense of openness and cross-pollination of ideas through our diverse range of activities is at the heart of what we believe in.

We are driven by our belief and passion for making things happen, and as a self-directed team we united through our vision for creating space for questioning, exploring, and experimenting, open to all.

Now KAC has to shut its doors at Katara Cultural Village for lack of financial support. It is an unfortunate reality that small cultural entities receive little financial support, and in a city that has large ambitions the smaller efforts are often overshadowed.

Acknowledging and supporting platforms such as KAC portrays a city and its people that welcome and encourage inclusive principles, where imagination and co-existence are nurtured, and where each takes ownership of their future.

We hope our story inspires others to form such spaces and perhaps KAC will see the light again. I would like to thank Tariq Al Jaidah, founder of KAC, the incredible KAC team, KAC's Advisory Board, and everyone who believed and supported us; it is through you that we developed our journey.
