Alison Halstead, area manager for Riverside ECHG, said: “We are delighted with this award! The project has been a great success. The awareness sessions delivered by two of our trained residents are encouraging the rest of our tenants to come forward and speak to staff should they have any concerns. The sessions are giving tenants the confidence and knowledge to report any of their suspicions to the Riverside team and what better way of raising tenants’ awareness than through tenants delivering the training to tenants”.

Rebecca Mollart, Chief Executive of erosh and member of the judging panel, commented: 'The panel was delighted with the increase in the number of entries this year, despite the continuing challenges faced by older peoples housing and support providers. I was especially pleased with the standard and variety of entries as well as the innovation and good practice shown by erosh members who are clearly committed to providing the highest standards of housing and support to older people. The Awards recognise the excellent work that members are undertaking across the UK.'

Dementia Awareness Week: Get Involved
This week is The Alzheimer's Society's Dementia Awareness Week and they want anyone who has concerns about dementia to get in touch with them for information and support. You can be part of their big week by helping them to raise awareness of the ways they can help. Get involved with local events and networks, download resources and much more on their Take Action web page. If your organisation has done anything special during the week to help raise awareness of dementia or generally on an ongoing basis, do let us know. We would like more examples in this area to include in our Good Practice Guides for erosh members.

CEO Rebecca Mollart Speaks at CIH Tai Cymru Conference
At the recent CIH Tai Cymru Conference, Erosh CEO Rebecca Mollart presented some of the evidence we can use to evaluate whether or not there is a crisis in England and/or Wales in relation to the provision of housing and related support for older people. She highlighted key demographical information in relation to older people and the implications for the nature of housing and support needed in the future. Rebecca also presented erosh’s key lobbying messages and the services and resources erosh provides to helps it members cope with the challenges facing the sector today and to prepare for the future. Delivering Housing Solutions for Older People Conference
On 9th & 10th September at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Stratford Upon Avon, this two day conference will focus on delivering, in partnership with other agencies, high quality services in different settings to meet the needs of older people. With the current changes starting to be implemented the Government is certainly having a significant impact on the housing sector and the provision of housing and support for an ageing population. The Department of Health aims to give more housing options for older and disabled people, particularly for those who are older home owners, through a care and support housing fund of £200million over 5 years. During the conference you will gain up to date information on the latest opportunities the care bill will create and the challenges organisations face to improve health in housing.

Imogen Parry, Adult Safeguarding expert, will be presenting on behalf of Erosh at the conference.

Erosh Trustee Runs London Marathon in aid of Independent Age
We were all very impressed by our very own Louise Cox (erosh trustee) completing the London Marathon this year in a very respectable time in aid of Independent Age. The amount of money raised for this excellent charity is astounding. Independent Age addresses the three poverties affecting older people today: financial poverty, poverty of information - ensuring they access the benefits and support they are entitled to, and poverty of social contact - offering befriending services to help alleviate isolation and loneliness. Find out about Independent Age and there’s still time to donate, just visit Louise’s Fundraising Page.
