HIGHLIGHT

SSCR-funded study publishes digital resources on indirect payments

A SSCR-funded study led by the Mental Health Foundation has published a practitioner guide and supporting app on direct payments for people who lack capacity to consent.

The study led by Dr Eva Cyhlarova explored how direct payments are working in practice for people who lack capacity to consent to them and are having them managed on their behalf by someone else. Social care practitioners play a vital role in ensuring that people who lack capacity to make certain decisions about their lives are able to take advantage of the full range of options for receiving care and support, including direct payments. The guide and app are designed to help social care practitioners work through the process of considering an indirect payment as a way of doing this.

Further information on the findings from the study will be available shortly. View Dr Cyhlarova's presentation about the project at our annual conference in April here.

RESEARCH

Tools for Talking

A SSCR-funded study on the views and experiences of people with learning disabilities from black and minority groups by Dr Michael Larkin, University of Birmingham, has developed Tools for Talking.

Primarily for use in social support settings, the Tools provide resources to facilitate communication and information sharing between people with learning disabilities from minority ethnic communities and service providers.
