Factory Benelux and New Order present
Of Factory New York, a unique benefit album released to assist Michael Shamberg, who ran the NYC office of Factory Records during the celebrated label’s Eighties heyday.
Soundway’s
second foray into South East Asia is focused on North-East Thailand, the epicentre of Molam and Luk Thung Isan music. Hypnotic phin & khaen riffs, pulsing, electrified country rhythms and heartfelt vocals punctuate another journey into the lesser known reaches of 1970s Thai music.
The idea of the
Speedy Wunderground label was to create something immediate, harking back to the golden age of rock and roll - where records were written, recorded and put out in a short space of time. All Speedy records are recorded and produced by Dan in one day, followed by mixing for one day, released on 7” single in limited runs of 250 as soon as is humanly possible.
‘Speedy Wunderground: Year 1’ is a collection of the first year’s singles along with the B-sides.
Re-issues this week are also ample and in splendid form. You can view the whole collection
here.
The highlight for us is another artefact from the
Light in the Attic roster. In 1983, a man named
Lewis recorded an album named
L’Amour, which was released on the unknown label R.A.W. And that’s about all we know. The ingredients are simple: smooth synthesizers, feather-light piano, ethereal, occasionally inaudible vocals and the gentle plucking of acoustic guitars. Prepare to become obsessed, it's a real gem.
Originally released on the Kapp label in 1970,
Linda Perhacs’ sleeper psych-folk opus is revisited by the Anthology label, who present the definitive version of
Parallelograms, mastered from the original tapes and including a bonus LP of demos and interviews. It's one of the best acid/valley albums we've ever heard and it took her forty four years to
follow up.
Scott Walker's seminal studio albums -
Scott, Scott 2, Scott 3 and Scott 4 are individually released along with the highly sought after
‘Til The Band Comes In (known in Japan as Scott 5). Each album was remastered at Abbey Road studios from the original analogue tapes. They sound superb and the price is great too!
We also got in the first batch of vinyl reissues as part of the Blue Note 75th anniversary campaign,
Horace Silver,
Grant Green,
Hank Mobley and
McCoy Tyner just landed with plenty more in the next few months.
