A Hint Of How Hatchette Will Respond To Amazon

Recently, Hatchette Books has been in a little tussle with Amazon.   Yesterday, I emailed the CEO of Hatchette Books and offered some advice. His response is pretty boilerplate, but hints at the direction of their dispute.

Michael,
You don't need to backdown to Amazon. Hatchet Books should be taking a more aggressive approach in response to Amazon's tactics. I'll keep this short because I assume you're especially busy right now. If you want more details, let me know.
 
Here are a few ideas:
  • Start a campaign promoting price comparison tools like PriceBlink and InvisibleHand that allow customers to see other places where items on Amazon are sold. You could even create your own browser extensions that show other options to Amazon on your books. 
  • Work with other online book sellers on promotional deals 
  • Get your authors to release videos telling their readers about what Amazon is doing and detailing alternative options to Amazon. One video from JK Rowling could go viral and would be particularly effective. 
  • Release full information about all the books impacted by Amazon. This information can be used by those who are upset about Amazon's tactics. See, for example, http://www.metafilter.com/139323/Nice-books-you-got-there-Itd-be-a-shame-if-nobody-bought-them
