The Cryofox Explorer 600LT ‘split-chamber’ system was recently delivered to the Federal University in Campina Grande, where it will be used as a research tool for the deposition of nanometer thin metal and semiconductor films on various substrates.

The first ever ‘dual-source’ system to be delivered to South America, is a versatile research tool with split-chamber configuration, that avoids oxidation of source material and optimisation of throughput since the process chamber is not vented between batches. It is equipped with 4 pocket e-Beam sources and 2 x 2” sputtering magnetrons for DC and RF sputtering, that will prove to be a flexible asset as it will be used by several research groups.

One of the most fascinating Big Science projects we have been working on for the past year, is servicing the coater for the mirrors on the VLTs at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in Chile.

Our team recently made a 4^th intervention visit where they performed a thorough analysis of the process after several leaks and errors were corrected. As such, they were able to optimize the properties of the coating and have now completed all initial intervention visits, although a proposal for a final major refurbishment has been submitted.

We recently attended IPAC’14, the 5^th International Particle Accelerator Conference held in Dresden, Germany.

Our primary focus was to promote our proprietary non-magnetic, high-uniformity coatings on kicker chambers which become charged during normal operation, causing irregular oscillations of the beam. The special coating provides a constant resistance throughout the length of the chamber, thus eliminating the undesired effects. The exhibition was well attended and a number of key contacts were made.
