FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FIRST ANNUAL NORTHERN VIRGINIA PRIDE FESTIVAL TO CELEBRATE HISTORY, PROGRESS, AND DIVERSITY IN NO. VA LGBTQ COMMUNITY

The purpose of this festival is to celebrate the history, progress, and diversity of the Northern Virginia Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community and its straight allies, provide unforgettable entertainment, a forum for local LGBTQ groups to network, and showcase pro-equality businesses and organizations in the community-at-large.

NOVA Pride invites all individuals in the Northern Virginia region and neighboring areas, regardless of whom or how you love or identify, to join them in making the first annual Northern Virginia Pride Festival a celebration for the history books!

NOVA Pride is currently seeking sponsors, vendors, and performers to participate in this celebration. Inquiries should be sent to sponsor@novapride.org or vendor@novapride.org.

About Northern VA Pride: NOVA Pride is a coalition-building organization with a mission to educate, advocate and celebrate the LGBTQA Community of Northern Virginia; including the counties of Fairfax, Loudoun, Arlington, and Prince William as well as the City of Alexandria. We aren't just festivals and flag-waving. We are a movement to create an infrastructure between county-based organizations, charities, pride organizations, social groups, and the community at-large; to educate the community about LGBTQ issues, including health and discrimination; advocate for LGBTQ equality; and celebrate diversity and individuality.

About Bull Run Special Events Center: Located on the floodplains of the historic Cub Run in Fairfax County, Virginia, the Special Events Center is designed to preserve the open space and rural landscape of Bull Run Regional Park. The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority has developed the Special Events Center as a unique cultural resource for the people of Northern Virginia. It serves as a venue for diverse activities and events produced by private, commercial and community sponsors. Past events include concerts, craft fairs, athletic competitions, circuses, dog and equestrian shows, historic reenactments, and ethnic festivals. The Center can accommodate groups up to 10,000.

This Week in LGBT - Blitz Edition

By Kyle Rohen on Jun 10, 2014 02:03 pm

Good afternoon, and welcome to This Week in LGBT - Blitz Edition!  We'll jump right in.

Wisconsin had its marriage ban overturned (sort of) this past Friday, and gay couples have been rushing to the altar with most counties granting licenses and most of those giving waivers to Wisconsin's five day waiting period.  The AG and Governor have requested a stay, which was denied by the presiding judge for now.

Capital Pride was this weekend.  Did you see us on the parade route/at our booth? Did you have a good time?  Sound off on our Facebook page!

Splash and Ride tickets are on sale - check out www.novapride.org/splash for tickets, including a package with NOVA Pride-branded merch!

NOVA Pride's First Pride Festival will be held October 4th, 2014, at Bull Run in Centerville, VA!  check out www.novapride.org/festival for more details.

Neil Patrick Harris performed "Sugar Daddy" from Hedwig and the Angry Inch at the Tonys on Sunday, and it was magical (if you're into that sort of thing).

Laverne Cox was on the cover of TIME, was flawless, as she is wont to be.

Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council compared gay rights activists to Nazi's, no one should be surprised.

Texas' Republican Party adopted some reparative "ex-gay" style therapy methods into its official platform.

That's it for This Week in LGBT - Blitz Edition!  We'll be back next week with a more proper edition after I catch up on sleep (who knew Pride celebrations could be so exhausting?)  See You Next Tuesday!

This past Saturday, NOVA Pride marched in the 2014 Capital Pride Parade, representing Northern Virginia in line with the Arlington Gay and Lesbian Alliance (AGLA) and Freddie's Beach Bar!

Over 100,000 spectators cheered us (and our big red pickup truck) on as we threw beads and candy to the crowd, distributed information about the first annual Northern Virginia Pride Festival this fall, and celebrated the diversity of the Capital region's LGBTQA community!

2014 Capital Pride Festival

On Sunday, we met thousands of Northern Virginia residents and spread the word about our festival, raffled off free tickets to the Pride Splash & Ride water park party at Six Flags, and other upcoming events!  Headliner Betty Who and the top four finalists from this past seasons of Ru Paul's Drag Race performed, among other local and national artists, the weather was GORGEOUS, and hundreds of other vendors shared our excitement for all the progress our country has made over the years!
