FIRST WORD from PASTOR CHIP STEVENS

Do you realize that First Baptist Church has been serving Christ in this community since 1839? In July of that year, a group of believers assembled together to form this family of faith. I wonder what they imagined the church would be like 175 years later? On Sunday, July 6, we will be celebrating the 175th Anniversary of FBC. To celebrate, we have several opportunities planned. First of all, we will join together for one combined worship service at 10:30 AM (we will have no Sunday School or early service that day). Secondly, we will enjoy an old-fashioned Dinner-on-the-Grounds in the Outreach Center after the service. We want to ask every family to bring at least one dish to share with the church family. You can drop it off in the OC on your way to the sanctuary. Third of all, we will give the opportunity to tour the Chapel. On that tour, you will be able to read some of the history of the church. Finally, we will give you the opportunity to tour the New Children's Building. By that time, hopefully enough will be done to get an idea of how ministry will take place when it's finished. This is sure to be a great day for the whole church family. Please circle this date on your calendar and make your plans to join us as we celebrate!

Thank you for allowing us to stand among you in the forest of trees that makes up FBC Starkville.

Church Family,

Words cannot express my gratitude for your support of Vacation Bible School at FBC Starkville. The week was filled with worship, fellowship and laughter as we became D3 Agents! It blessed my heart to see so many smiling faces eager to discover the truth of Jesus.

Each year, we encourage all VBS participants to bring canned food items to benefit the Food Pantry at Calvary Baptist Church. This year we collected 1235 items! On Friday morning, the Sixth Grade class had the opportunity to take the cans to Calvary and assist in organizing the Food Pantry. We are so excited to partner with local ministries
in supporting Starkville families!

Through the Offering given during VBS, we will be donating $482.00 to the Margaret Lackey Offering for State Missions. Margaret Lackey supports Camp Garaywa, Central Hills Camp, Disaster Relief, CWJC/CMJC and other Mississippi ministries.

To the 70 volunteers that served this year, Thank You! VBS would not happen without you. From teaching and singing to snacking and crafting, you did it all! Staffing and leading VBS is no easy task, but you consistently offered support and encouragement. For that,

I cannot thank you enough. I hope each of you will return next year!

Thank you for your continued prayers and encouragement!

Leah Frances Eaton

Dear Church Family,
I cannot begin to thank you enough for the prayers and support for our recent East Asia trip. With this year’s trip being a return trip for me, I was excited to see God do work again. We were able to reconnect with a friend named Kris who became a Christian last year right after we left. During one of the services we were discussing John 15 where Jesus says in verse 6, “If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.” Through discussion that led from this passage, Kris was able to see the importance of sharing our faith. The importance that without Christ we are nothing and are eternally separated from God. I explained to her that as I sat with her last year I knew I couldn’t make her choose Christ but that I cared so much that she accepted Him because He is the only way to eternity and a life of hope and peace on earth. Seeing God help her grasp the concept and her eyes light up with understanding was simply amazing. Please pray for Kris as she realizes the importance of sharing with her friends and roommates that aren’t believers. While there were many good discussions with fellow believers there were also friends that still struggled to accept. A friend from last year named Nancy was one of those. We continuously explained the gospel and shared what God had done in our lives, but her response was always a shoulder shrug and a quiet “okay, I understand.” A few days later she finally opened up and said that her parents believed in something else. She was not allowed to believe otherwise. It literally broke my heart. At that moment it hit me how blessed I am that I grew up in a Christian home that encouraged me in to grow in my relationship with God. We are so blessed in America for the freedoms we take for granted every day. Please join me in prayer for Nancy. Pray that her eyes are opened to her need for Christ and that she will be bold in accepting regardless of her parents’ belief.

Thank you again for your encouraging support while we were away living life with friends and fellow believers. I learned yet again how big our God is and how He is doing a mighty work all over the world, not just here at home.

In Him,
Anna Robinson
