Google Builds Database to Unlock Mysteries of Autism

Since its unveiling in February, Google’s genomics effort has been relatively quiet. But this week the tech giant shared its first big genomics goal: to build a massive digital genome database with the non-profit Autism Speaks. Genomics has been a booming area in digital health, with the rise of startups like 23andMe and StartUp Health company Gene by Gene. Autism, which affects one in 68 children, has also been the target of new innovation. Our portfolio company ABPathfinder, for example, develops software for autism therapy and SynapDx has raised venture funding for a blood test for autism. The goal of this latest project is to knock down the “data barriers” surrounding autism and we hope we begin to see more programs of its kind.
