Porch Talk

Begins Today at 6:30 pm

Last summer we tried a new summer study approach by offering, Porch Talk, at Rev. David's home. We will once again convene on Rev. David's porch at 26 Platinum Plain on Thursday evenings beginning June 12th at 6:30 pm. We are planning on using Brene Brown's book, The Gifts of Imperfection. While this is a self-help book, it is also one that intersects nicely with our Christian values. It has helped many people deepen their faith journey. It is not necessary to read the book to participate in Porch Talks, but we will be using the book to form starter questions.

Lauren Fowler recently wrote this on her
mindful meals blog

" I can always count on my mom for book recommendations,
so when she passed along The Gifts of Imperfection, I was
really excited to read it. I will admit it sat on my bedside table
for a few months until I got to it, but once I cracked it open."
it cracked my heart right open."

If you do purchase the book please read the "Introduction" and the chapter "Courage, Compassion, and Connection: The Gifts of Imperfection." There is no expectation that anyone will attend all Porch Talk gatherings. Come when you can. Everyone is welcome. Future meetings dates are June 19, 26; July 10,31; and August 7,14. Please note that these date reflect that Porch Talk has been moved from Wednesday nights to Thursday nights.

Women's Fellowship Next Wednesday

Caberet of 1999...Anyone Remember?

Women's Fellowship will be meeting on Wednesday, June18 beginning at 11:30 followed by a light lunch at 12:00.  Our program will be "A Walk Down Memory Lane", a DVD presentation.  As many of you will remember, the Barre Congregational Church presented a Cabaret in 1999.  It was a fun filled evening with laughter, entertainment, and lots of "local talent".  Come and laugh with us as we watch a little vaudeville, tap dancing by Chris Rousseau, singing by the choir, and seeing some faces from the past.

If you are interested in coming but are not on our calling list, please contact Nancy Clay at 454-1723. All are welcome - including husbands.

VOLUNTEERS FOR TAPE MINISTRY NEEDED

The videotaping of our Sunday worship service is one of our outreaches into the wider community. In order to ensure that every Sunday is taped we need volunteers.  Matt Safford and Don Singer are currently doing the taping. A team of four - five people would be ideal. Contact Rev. David if you are interested in serving in this important ministry.

          PARKING PARKING PARKING ???

Dear members and friends of the Barre Congregational Church the parking spaces in front of the church are no longer free. They are now metered and enforced Monday through Friday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. The cost is $.25 per half hour. They are two hour meters meaning that the space has to be vacated after two hours. On days that we are having events that would require people to be in the church for longer than two hours we can purchase the space for the day for $2.00. Parking remains free during the hours not designated and on weekends. That said, the triangle (the area between the islands in front of the church) is no longer available for parking. The Barre City Manger's office has informed us that this area can be used on weekends. Enforcement will be relaxed during worship services. Please do not park in this area Monday through Friday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm and at all other times at your own risk. Handicap parking remains free at all times.

The lose of these spaces does present a hardship for our church because we do not own any parking spaces.
The Hedding United Methodist Church has graciously made their parking lot available to our staff Monday through Friday. The three spaces designated for the Barre Congregational Church in the Ladder 1 parking lot behind the church are still available to us. Volunteers and visitors are urged to use these three spaces in the Ladder One parking lot before using metered parking. Those attending the Strong Living exercise class may park in any space in the Ladder 1 lot. The owner has graciously agreed to let us use the parking lot as long as the spaces are available for her patrons by 10:00 am.

We are deeply appreciative to the Hedding United Methodist church and Valerie Beaudet, owner of Ladder 1. They are good neighbors.

                                                                                                   Rev. David
