The voice of PPD Learning in the NLP community — January 2014

Happy 2014 - hope it's all going well so far and that any resolutions you made were sufficiently ecological to be sustained (!), and if not, then 'creatively transformed' and integrated anew!

So here's our news - there's lots of PPD Learning projects happening this year and we're bringing some new NLP resources into the field to support the bigger, more integrated, systemic NLP that we have championed and innovated over nearly 3 decades.

Firstly, we're powering on with our PPDL Book which will bring together many of your favourite UK PPDL trainers and coaches.  Our great friend Judy Delozier will also be a contributor -  it'll be an amazing collection. The plan is to have the book ready for you for the summer.

Next, we're planning a series of videos and resources of core NLP skills and tools - to help you keep fresh and alive in your practice and to further deepen your understanding of key models and principles.

Also we are currently creating some new training and learning events -  some on Applications of NLP, like Effective Communication, Public Speaking etc and some Masterclasses more focussed on Advanced NLP and Trainer Training - we'll keep you posted.

Personally I'm also enjoying having weekends again (!) reading, walking in beautiful Dorset, catching up with friends, family, colleagues etc and enjoying time and space to think, be creative and have fun.

If you want to be in touch..you can find me on the PPD Learning Facebook page and also on Linked In and Twitter.

Looking forward to being in touch,

Hope your NLP practice is going well.

With warmest wishes

It's here at last! NLP's OWN WIKI!!

NLP Wiki - New NLP Encyclopedia

For many years professionals in the NLP field have been frustrated and despairing about the toxic, disparaging, highly distorted and inaccurate NLP entry on Wikipedia.

Also we are effectively blocked from correcting it - which means that people looking to find out about NLP are completely misinformed.

(Fascinating article - 'Cargo Cult Criticism' by Andy Bradbury - dissects the phoney, poor quality research, upon which Wikipedia et al base their negative case against NLP.)

So now, a work in progress … ta da!

What's on top of Judith's book pile today?

Intrigued by this article by Tim Parks in the Guardian, having enjoyed his 'Teach Us To Sit Still'.  I am reading, slowly, this very engaging study in family and systemic therapy by Valeria Ugazio.

Her work has explicit roots into Bateson and Haley, referencing 'double binds', 'the cybernetics of self' and 'pragmatics of human communication' among other things. It's a subtle, touching account of her work, specifically focussed on dealing with phobias, eating disorders, depression and obsessive-compulsive disorders.

Earlier in the year I touched on some of these issues in the 'Effective Communication' training - ideas grounded in NLP, that 'the meaning of your communication is the response you get,' and 'every behaviour has a 'positive intention driving it' etc

Not a read for everyone I know (!) but really illuminating and touching.

Here's a video from last year about 'rules and patterns in communication' which you might find interesting too.

Did you know PPD Learning has it's own Youtube channel with more NLP soundbites and other videos. Watch this space!
