Our mission: to empower youth ministers to become skilled and effective leaders

An email on depth and richness...

I reconnected with an old friend recently, and he asked how things were going. Often this question really is, "are you succeeding?"

I answered honestly. "Things are going well! I love this work and I'm learning how to do it better. I feel like I'm doing everything I can to share this vision."

It's working! Churches are inviting me to make presentations to their personnel committees. And, I'm receiving referred calls from pastors I haven't met.

If you read only one thing in this newsletter, read this email from a pastor:

"Matt, as I continue to explore the various continuing education options available and talk more with our youth minister, I am not persuaded that any other program even comes close to offering the depth and richness of Youth Ministry Institute. There is still quite a bit of "creative thinking" we would need to do on the topic of how to work it into the budget, but that should really be the least of our concerns - it seems - when it comes to building a solid foundation for this church and its youth ministry for years and years to come."

I'm humbled by these words – this pastor "gets it." And, I've been asked to make a presentation to this church's personnel committee next week.

Here is an additional update of how your support is making a difference:
  • We have three additional churches (Presbyterian and United Methodist) who are meeting this month to consider sending their youth ministers through our two-year education program, which begins on August 25.
  • Our organization has a contract with Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church in Overland Park, Kansas, to help them search for a new youth director.
  • First Presbyterian Church in Wichita has contacted with our organization to lead a consulting workshop in July to provide visionary support for long-term planning in youth ministry.
  • The Presbytery of Southern Kansas has asked me and Rev. Zach Walker to give two 90 minute lectures at their church growth summit in September on behalf of Youth Ministry Institute.
  • Heartland Presbytery has asked me to lead two classes at their Oasis education event this Fall.
  • The Synod of Mid-America, Village Church, Central Presbyterian Church, Southminster Presbyterian Church, and a contingent of members from Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church are local partners that support our work.
  • Youth Ministry Institute Midwest is listed on the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation website, and we are networking with several similar nonprofits to learn about their organizational and funding models.
Thank you for your prayers and support. You're making a difference!

Partner Spotlight –
Central Presbyterian Church

Central Presbyterian Church supports the work of Youth Ministry Institute Midwest to nurture generations who will become leaders in the Church. Central is a valued partner because of our shared vision to empower leaders through spiritual fellowship, nurture, and compassion.
Rev. Heidi Peterson said, "Our congregation does not expect to realize an immediate benefit from this ministry, because we are missing the generation that would be a youth group for us. We recognize that this ministry will equip, nurture, and inspire leaders to widely impact the Greater Church, and this investment will benefit our congregation in future years. In this way, our support of YMI is a gift that expresses the unity of the Church."

Youth Ministry Institute Midwest is grateful for the ongoing support of our partner organizations who believe in the importance of youth ministry.
