Tee Off to Drive Change
The folks behind Keepin' It Local in the 989 have been hard at work planning the charity golf outing, which starts at 8:30 a.m. July 14 at The Pines Golf Course of Lake Isabella, Mich. We're thrilled to announce that the event's proceeds will benefit our work, helping to house and uplift the homeless of Isabella County through our rotating shelter.

Show your support by rounding up some good friends and registering for the event by calling 989-644-2300. The outing includes free range balls before shotgun start, breakfast, 18 holes of golf with a cart, lunch, and prizes. Cost is $75 per person. Pre-registration is required. [Note: Registering Dad for this event would make for a top-notch Father's Day gift!]

Planning for the 2014-2015 rotating shelter is underway and it's more ambitious than ever. Committee members have been working tirelessly to secure donations, reorganize procedures, partner with churches, and expand operations. You heard right. This season's rotating shelter will run from November 2 through May 2--three months longer than last season's!

"Homelessness often results in a feeling of isolation. The rotating shelter allowed the guests to connect with the community."

--Julia Keepper, rotating shelter co-chair

Double the Length, Double the Need

You help us do important work, such as reconnecting area homeless with the colorful community in which we all live. To better serve them, we have committed to doubling the rotating shelter's operation. That presents the challenge of garnering twice as much community support.

We are enormously thankful to the many churches, nonprofit organizations, and businesses that generously provided the necessary backing last season, ensuring the smooth operation of the church-based shelter. If you have a spare moment, please thank them for being agents of positive local change.

The churches: Community of Christ, Wesley @ CMU, First United Methodist, St. John's Episcopal, First of Christ, First Presbyterian, Central Michigan Free Methodist, Immanuel Lutheran, Mt. Pleasant Community, Leaton United Methodist, Central Michigan Christian, First of the Nazarene, St. Joseph the Worker, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Michigan, Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cornerstone, Faith Weavers of St. Mary, and Sacred Heart.

The businesses and organizations: CMU Student Social Work Association, A & D Home Health Care, Isabella Community Credit Union, KFC on Mission, LaBelle Management, Morey Courts, U-Ride, I-Ride, Morey Foundation, Cops & Doughnuts, Comfort Inn, Chippewa Cab, Cr
ème de la Crème Cupcakes, E-Z Clean Laundromat, Mission Pharmacy, and Mt. Pleasant Fire and Police.

Likewise, we are indebted to the contributions of nearly 1,000 volunteers, some who even made serving at the rotating shelter a new, weekly family tradition.

Your diverse partnerships enriched the lives of every shelter guest. Please consider teaming up with us again this season.

Get Involved!
Are you passionate about our mission and wish to lend your time, energy, and expertise to help us make it a reality? Please reach out to Julia Keepper or Terrie Zitzelsberger by email or by leaving a voicemail at 989-774-2424. Rotating shelter committees are forming now.

*Church Needs

It is essential our host churches possess the following:
  • Capacity to house guests overnight (6 p.m. to 8 a.m.) for one or two week(s)
  • Ability to provide a hot meal nightly
  • Relaxation area, separate sleeping space for men and women, and restrooms
Unable to provide all that? Consider becoming a partner church, which provide 20 committed volunteers and/or coverage for needed shifts and duties throughout the week(s).

ICRH provides training, support, and supplies.
