Keeping Kentville Connected
Looking at the early history of Kings County, one thing appears obvious – early on, wherever there were crossroads, ports and river crossings like fords and bridges, villages often sprung up. In more than a few cases, these villages evolved into towns that still thrive today. According to historical columnist Ed Coleman, this is true of Kentville. Read more in Ed's article here.

Citizen Questions
Whatever came about of the TV show to be filmed in Kentville?
Kentville TV Show a no-go!
Last year and earlier this year, Force Four production came to Kentville to film a demo for a potential program about life without taxes. The network absolutely loved the demo and was behind the project all along. Unfortunately, the network is undergoing some major changes and as a result their needs have changed with it. The tax series no longer matches what they're looking for. Unfortunately, the show will no longer will be filmed in Kentville. However, they will look for ways to hopefully collaborate with Kentville in the future.

Your Town Council

PUBLIC INPUT REQUIRED: How many councilors should be elected to Kentville Town Council? The Municipal Government Act (MGA) requires all municipalities to review their boundaries and their council size every 8 years following which a recommendation is sent to the Utility and Review Board (UARB) for its approval. Any changes will come into effect in 2016.

This review process is required during 2014 and work has been underway to gather information, prepare data for comparisons and to solicit feedback from Kentville citizens.  Public input is an important part of the process and holds a great deal of weight with the decision made by UARB.

Currently, citizens of the Town of Kentville elect a mayor and 6 councilors every four years.   As the Town is not governed by the ward system, (with specific boundaries) each councilor represents the Town “at large” and serves the total population.

The options for public consideration are:
Maintain the status quo (6 councilors and a mayor)
Decrease council size (i.e. 4 councilors and a mayor)
Increase council size (i.e. 8 councilors and a mayor)

Kentville Town Council will provide numerous opportunities over the next few months to engage citizens in this review process.  A special agenda item (Question and Answer Period on Council Size Review) has been added at both the regular meeting of Council (typically last Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m.) and the Council Advisory Committee meetings (typically the second Monday of each month at 1:30 p.m.).

More information will be provided over the next few e-newsletters.
