...at the Food Cart, that is.

That's right.  The Farm Food Cart is back in business, open for lunch from 11 - 3 at the Farm Stand.  Some of you may have already enjoyed a tuna croissant sandwich, asparagus tamales, or the brunch sandwich during our soft opening the last two weeks, and now the word is out.  The pizza oven (new! bigger!) arrived last week, and after a few days of curing, is ready to fire pizzas topped with MIG produce. Sally's food continues to draw crowds and satisfy cravings for balanced, fresh, and seasonal meals.  She also has some fabulous cooks to carry out her menus: Griscelda and Zak, recent grads, and Sierra, an incoming senior (below) from South Salem High School.  They'll be in the Farm Food Cart this summer, and we're lucky to have their fresh, young faces around!

After our strawberry "boom" the past couple of weeks, the plants have slowed down a bit, and we don't expect a huge crop of strawberries again this season.  However, some of our everbearing plants will continue to produce berries in smaller quantities throughout the summer.  We've decided to open up U-Pick in the strawberry patch, and though picking conditions aren't what they were a week ago, there is still fresh fruit to be had next week.  Also, check out the awesome picture taken by farmer/media expert Lindsay of the baby birds in the strawberry patch.  Tread lightly!

As strawberries leave us, we look forward to another Oregon staple: blueberries!  The warm weather in May and early June helped our berries get a good start, and it looks like we will have a wonderful crop of blueberries this year.  We have just started picking them, and are opening up blueberry U-Pick this Saturday, June 21.  Again, berries are just starting to ripen, but there's still fruit to pick!

Walk With a Farmer

This summer, the Salem SouthWest Association of Neighbors has invited us to become part of their "Just Walk!" summer tour.  On Thursday, July 17th, we are offering a walk around the farm at Minto Island Growers.  The walk will be about 1 mile (for 1 hour or so) around the farm, and Elizabeth will show walkers some of our fields, examples of the incredible biodiversity on organic farms, and native plants and wildlife.  After the walk, a fresh dinner of pizza and salad will be offered for $10, with berry cobbler for an additional $3.  Space is limited to 40 people (children will not be counted and are welcome), so please email me (cassie@mintogrowers.com) to make your reservation.

For more information about Just Walk Salem, visit the Just Walk! website, Facebook page, or contact Jennifer at 503-364-2818 or Corinne at 503-540-2303.

Peas, Love, and Yoga.

Yoga is offered at the Farm Stand every Friday morning this summer.  Instructor Debbie Boe's all-levels yoga class begins with foam rolling at 7:15 AM, followed by yoga at 7:45 AM.  Cost is on a sliding scale, from $5 - 15.  Bring a mat and dress in layers.  Check our Facebook page for updates in case of inclement weather.  We hope to see you there!
Happy Solstice!
