June has arrived

and with it our packed Summer programme of parenting skills courses, social outings for people parenting alone or sharing parenting, and professional development training.

We're excited too about our upcoming Graduation ceremony in Dublin Castle for successful participants of our courses over the past year. This year, for the first time, we have an open invite to parents interested in finding out more about training and hearing first hand about the journey travelled to come along and enjoy it too, whether you've been with us before or not. RSVP details can be found here. We're also looking forward to our live askonefamily Facebook Q&A this month for parents affected by the One-Parent Family Payment ending for them in the weeks ahead and wondering about their next options. The live Q&A takes place on Wednesday 18 June from 10-11am. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for details.

We have two fantastic videos to share this month. They're guaranteed to put a smile on your face even if the sun remains stubbornly behind a cloud, as it did for our Family Day Festival on 18 May. But that didn't put a dampner on the event as thousands turned out to enjoy the fun and celebrate all families.

Read on for more about the above and other One Family news.

Summer School

Throughout July, we will be offering an interesting series of four workshops for parents. These are: Happy Home, Happy Child - Understanding Behaviour and Dealing with Challenges on 10 July; Making Shared Parenting Work - Communication and Resolving Conflict on 17 July; How to Deal with the Impacts of Separation on Parents and Children on 24 July; and Parenting Teens - Understanding How We Parent to Increase Happiness on 31 July. All workshops will take place in Cherish House, Dublin 2 from 10am-1pm and are exceptional value at just €15 unwaged / €25 waged. Book now by emailing info@onefamily or calling 01 662 9212.

Get Social

It's important for parents to have a social outlet to help combat isolation and loneliness, and to keep self-esteem high though finding the finances and/or someone to babysit means that this is often impossible for many parents. That is why the One Family Social Group is a great option. You can interact with other parents while your children are having fun. Social Group outings take place throughout July and August to destinations including Newbridge Farm, Tayto Park, Donadea Forest and Dublin Zoo. As we negotiate special rates, costs for venues with admission fees will range from only €5 to €10 per family. Contact us to find out more.

Survey

Our Budget 2015 Panel - ten lone parents and/or parents sharing parenting who are collaborating with us on our budget submission - discuss a different topic every month including housing, childcare and the importance of after school care, tax credits, in work incentives and educational supports for people parenting alone.

You can be part of the discussion too by taking our anonymous 3 question survey. This month's survey is on Engagement with the Local and European Elections. You can take it by clicking here now. To read what you told us last month about Housing and rent Supplement Limits, click here.

Professionals

Would you like One Family to come to you? Our Professional Development service can train a group in your locality, saving everyone the expense of travel and accommodation. If you or your organisation gathers  a group of between 8 and 12 people, we will offer you one free training place to the value of €500 (and depending on numbers, possibly a second place on the training free of charge). For groups of more than 12 people, we can also offer a special rate, bringing down the per head charge for each participant. To avail of this offer you will need to follow these 3 steps: put a group together of local participants; provide a suitable training room with good access; and contact us to book training. Click here for programme details.

Video Time

Our annual Family Day Festival took place on Sunday 18 May in Dublin's Iveagh Gardens and was attended by almost 5,000 people. Despite the rain, we had a brilliant day with wonderful singers, musicians, poets, performers, sports, storytelling and puppet shows to entertain us, excellent workshops and information. Watch this video from the event. We promise it'll put a smile on your face!

We also launched, with our All Families Matter coalition members, a humorous look at the status of non-traditional families in Ireland today to raise awareness of the need for Constitutional change. You can watch it here and please share if you too believe that All Families Matter.
If you missed the Today FM documentary Cherish All The Children about our establishment in 1972, featuring interviews with our brave founders, our first President Mary Robinson and many more,
you can listen here.
