how to get yourself to forgive
Diana Antholis
Forgive for you.

When I read that line, it all made sense.

I see status updates and fancy quote photos online that tell me to forgive. They make it seem so easy—just forgive!

No. It's not that easy.

Sometimes it's really hard. Someone's wronged you. You are hurt. Revenge and anger are looming in your mind.

If you flip the switch though, and tell yourself to forgive someone not for them, but for you, the game changes. You are forgiving so you can continue on with your life without judgement, anger, or sadness.

This doesn't mean that you have to stay friends with this person or be fake. It means that you are choosing to not let their actions bother you anymore. This works for friendships, colleagues, and lovers. Forgive them, because not forgiving them causes you too much unnecessary pain. It doesn't mean you are accepting their behavior that pissed you off. It means you are not letting them affect you any longer.

And what's better than that?

Tell me, how do you forgive?
