Lesson 269: His Robes For Mine, Pt.3
The 2nd verse of the hymn “His Robes for Mine” describes Christ’s active obedience. Christ earned righteousness which is credited to each believer.
Christ perfectly obeyed God’s Law, and God the Father’s will. Matt.3:15; 1 John 2:1; Rom.1:17, 2:13, 3:22, 4:4-6, 4:11b; 1 Cor.1:30
Verse 2:
His robes for mine: what cause have I for dread?
God’s daunting Law Christ mastered in my stead.
Faultless I stand with righteous works not mine,
Saved by my Lord’s vicarious death and life.
John 8:29 Jesus said, “He who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him.”
Rom.5:17-19 For if, because of one man's trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.
Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. For as by the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous.
