NO WEDNESDAY NIGHT ACTIVITIES FOR THIS WEEK
Because of the Block Party on Friday, we will not have activities Wednesday night, July 2.  Please join us for our annual Independence Day celebration Friday night at 6:00pm.  See below for more information about all the fun for the Fourth of July.

MUSIC CITY HOT CHICKEN FESTIVAL
Every Fourth of July, thousands of people come to East Park for the Annual Music City Hot Chicken Festival.  Nashville has become known for its famous Hot Chicken!  Every local Hot Chicken eatery will be there serving the masses.  Each year there is also an amateur cooking competition and this year a team from Nashville First Church of the Nazarene will be competing!  There were more applications turned in than ever before but the team from NFCN got in.  That’s right….NFCN will be completing in the Hot Chicken Festival but more importantly an estimated 10,000 people that come to this festival will get to see the church outside its walls being a presence in the community.  The team led by Matthew Dunlap, Doug Praskach, and Nick Kroes will want your support!  So, make plans now to be at the Music City Hot Chicken Festival amateur cooking competition on July 4 from 12:00pm-2:00pm over at East Park to cheer on the team from NFCN and maybe make a new friend or friends and invite them to the Block Party later that night!

 FOURTH OF JULY BLOCK PARTY
Make plans now to be at Nashville First Church of the Nazarene on Friday, July 4 from 6:00pm until the downtown fireworks!  We are going to have some amazing games for children, teens, and adults.  We are going to have a corn hole tournament where the winner will walk away with a custom NFCN corn hole set.  We are going to have food trucks as well other concession food.  We are going to have some amazing music with the David Lakey Band, the Cumberland Rivers Boys led by Jack Galloway, and Andrea Garcia leading a group to play some amazing cover songs.  This is sure to be one of the most exciting Block Parties in recent years so make plans now to be there!
IF YOU HAVE A CORN HOLE SET AND WOULD BE WILLING TO BRING IT TO THE 4TH OF JULY BLOCK PARTY, PLEASE CONTACT MATTHEW DUNLAP BY CLICKING HERE OR CALLING 250-1140, EXT. 190.

What an inspiring week at District Assembly hosted by a son of NFCN -  Pastor Lynn and Robin Holmes at Memphis Calvary Church.  This will be the LAST District Assembly in a local church - next year we will be in the NEW Mitchell Tabernacle at Garner Creek Retreat Center in Dickson.  We were all moved by the preaching and missional emphasis of our new General Superintendent, Dr. Gustavo Crocker, who presided.

Rev. Matt Taylor who is our Youth Pastor was ordained an Elder in the Church of the Nazarene at Assembly, and was part of a special reception held Thursday evening in Memphis, as well as this past Sunday at NFCN.    We are proud of and celebrate with Pastor Matt and Charly!

Several couples are celebrating significant anniversaries this summer.  David and Pat Dunlap celebrated 40 years recently at the home of Greg and Tonia McLane in Murfreesboro.  Rev. Jon and Nancy Gray celebrated 50 years a few days ago in Byars Center.  Jon is our Counseling Ministry coordinator for East Nashville Life Ministries. Rev. Larry and Linda Foster will celebrate 50 years at their Lebanon home this coming Saturday afternoon, and former Trevecca Nazarene University President Dr. Homer J. and Beatrice Adams will celebrate 70 years of marriage Saturday afternoon at the Hardy Alumni Center on Trevecca's Campus.  Congratulations to all of these who lead the way for us all in marriage.

Around 100
NFCNers and friends attended the Nashville Sounds game Sunday evening.  A great night was enjoyed by all!

Karen and I were visiting some of our most elder members on Saturday, and they told us: We want you to know, Pastor, we call your name in prayer not once, but twice every day - out loud, and we also pray for you, Karen.

The phone rang a week ago Monday morning, and on the other end was one of our faithful members: Pastor, I just wanted to call this morning and let you know how much I appreciate your ministry and that I am praying faithfully for you these days.

As I was walking out of the sanctuary Sunday morning one of our long-time members said Pastor, I also pray for you every day.

These scenarios are repeated on a weekly basis as I move around in the ministry of NFCN.  I am realizing first of all how very blessed I am to pastor a people like you at NFCN.  I am realizing also in new ways because you are telling me that you are praying faithfully for your pastor and staff, and for our church.

Something is moving among us - I believe it's the Holy Spirit.  We're hearing from God, we're worshiping with new openness to the Spirit, and many of you are sensing God's call and voice in your own life.

Sunday morning's Celebration Worship service ended with many of our congregation on our knees, calling out to God for His Church.  We were confessing and repenting, seeking deliverance from the strongholds in our lives, and asking the Holy Spirit to come in a fresh new infilling and cleansing of our hearts and lives.

Something is up.  God isn't finished yet with NFCN, even after 116 years of ministry to greater Nashville.  Even after pastors have come and gone and retired, even after financial and attendance declines in recent years.  We still have a place of service in advancing God's Kingdom.

I ask you to pray as you've never prayed before.  Seek as you've never sought before. Accentuate and talk about the positive things God is doing among us.  Rejoice and celebrate with others at His blessings upon you and upon us.  Refuse to be named with the naysayers and critics.  Count yourselves among the encouragers and uplifters.
And may we open ourselves to a fresh move of God's Spirit in and among us, until all will have to agree what's taken place at NFCN is nothing short of the intervention of God upon a people.  I am believing this is coming.  We are getting closer.  He is changing us from the inside out.  Who knows what He has in store for us.  Let's press ahead, with full faith.  These are exciting days.
