6) Don’t let ticks take a bite out of summer!/Ne laissez pas les tiques gâcher votre été!

(Français ci-dessous.)

Summer is finally here, and it’s time to enjoy the outdoors! In addition to protecting ourselves against the sun, it’s also important to protect ourselves against blacklegged ticks and Lyme disease, a bacterial infection that could be transmitted by blacklegged tick bites.

While there are many kinds of ticks, only blacklegged ticks can carry the bacteria. Blacklegged ticks could be anywhere so it is important to take precautions whenever outside.

The Public Health Agency of Canada encourages people to protect themselves against blacklegged tick bites and Lyme disease by adopting simple measures such as wearing closed-toe shoes, long-sleeved shirts and pants, using insect repellents that contain DEET and checking for ticks on clothing and skin regularly.

For more information on Lyme disease, including prevention, symptoms and treatment, please visit our website at this link
