BCRG update 11_2014  Environmental Justice, John Merritt, Planting Day success
30 June, 2014
Hi everyone,

1)  Environmental Justice

Carmen has passed on a valuable link to Environmental Justice, which will enable you to subscribe to air pollution updates.

Environment Justice is holding a 'clean air seminar' on 8 July, which BCRG members may wish to attend.

2) Letter to John Merritt

As requested by participants of the last BCRG meeting, I wrote to former EPA Victoria CEO John Merritt on your behalf, recognising and expressing gratitude for his work in leading EPA to facilitate significant change to the amenity in and around Brooklyn with relation to dust, noise and odour.

John wrote back with: "Thank you so much for doing that.  It means a lot to me, and I would be very grateful if you would pass on my sincere thanks to the members of BCRG."
(Job done!)

3) Planting Day Success!

Despite the awful weather yesterday, about 30 (or so) people took part in the BRAG/Friends of Lower Kororoit Creek planting day on the Federation Trail.

It was terrific to see so many industry people planting trees alongside community, and very encouraging to see the input of so many sponsors including VicRoads, Melbourne Water, Brimbank CC, EPA Victoria, Sunshine Groupe, Transpacific Industries, APA Group, Delta Demolitions, JBS Australia, Veolia Environmental Services, Sims Metal Management, DEPI 2 Million Trees Project, Corrections Victoria, Marks Henderson, Fulton Hogan, Toyota, Millers Inn and Bakers Delight.

Particular thanks are due to Australian Tallow, Cedar Meats, Burns Earthmoving, Cargill Australia and City Circle Demolitions - as are my apologies for not including them on the list of sponsors in the original updated email.

The day was a terrific example of industry-community-government collaboration to create a better Brooklyn. Well done to all involved!

Happy new financial year!

BCRG is not aligned with (or influenced by) any political entity or any one organisation. It exists for the purpose of facilitating community, industry, local government and EPA to work together to ensure that public concerns and aspirations regarding odour, noise and dust in the general Brooklyn area are consistently understood and considered. That being said, real engagement necessitates dissemination of a range of ideas, opinions and views in order to enable informed participation from a broad base.
