Selected Weekly Saltiness:  Summer Soul-stice

Letter from the Editors:

Hi, Salties!

We write you from our beachside cabana between pina coladas and coconut oil massages. As if! We're not off on some tropical isle (yet!) but it sure does feel like 'tis the season with the mercury rising and the true signs of summer heating up. Here's to finding your own little umbrella cooler wherever this Soul-stice takes you. And don't trouble yourself, we've got your beach reading right here!

Warmly,
Jenniy + Matt

WTF?

Confidence Code

"Men routinely overestimate their abilities by, some, thirty percent, women tend to underestimate their abilities. What we're trying to do with this book is get women's perception of their talent in line with their real talent." - Katty Kay and Claire Shipman aim to crack the Confidence Code and help women help themselves.

Nay to 'Normal'

So we all know who won Miss USA, right? No? But we sure know Miss Indiana...or you will soon. Mekayla Diehl added weight training and exercise to gain muscle mass for the competition, and though she's been dubbed "normal" sized, the beauty queen is pushing back on that terminology.

Ciao, Charney!

After years of ongoing "investigations", poor financial productivity and layers of lawsuits under the bracket of 'sexual harassment', it seems the American Apparel brand finally ousted founder, Dov Charney, as director and chairman of the company. Let us take a moment to start a slow clap... <clap>...<clap>

Honorable Mentionables:

No way? NEW way. In the face of adverse designer rejections and dismissals for red carpet Oscar dress options, the brilliant star of tv and film, Melissa McCarthy, decided to simply create her very own plus sized line. We'd love to know who told this fabulous actress/entertainer "no"!

The controversy over Somaly Mam forced her to step down from leading the organization. Lies were told and truths were stretched but that doesn't mean we should go ahead and dismiss the work of so many other great orgs fighting against sex trafficking because they still matter.

Something tells us this is not what the Suffragists had in mind, but we guess more power to you and your sexual promiscuity? Do what you want with your body, girlfriend.

Speaking of, scenes from the Terry Richardson-directed Lady Gaga and R. Kelly video have leaked. The vid, which has been described as 'literally an ad for rape' has been scrapped, for several reason, you can imagine.
